Rifle Scopes scope for up to 500 yards help needed

Still looking at scopes for target shooting.
Would like fine cross hair and 1/8 adjustments.
I may have made a mistake,by listening to one
guy and bought a weaver t36..I like the scope
and the adjustments are great.BUT i think it
is too much scope..Maybe not,but I know it
picks up barrel heat in 30 degree temps,lol

I been looking at the Nikons and it seems to me
16 x should be plenty..After all I have a spotting
scope to use to see bullet holes..

I would appreciate any or all of you pro's
opinions out there...Thanks...

I like Goin'hot's suggestion. I think the retical will work well for you too, if you're into mil/mil. Or the SS 12x if your eyes need a little more like mine do. When the targets can't move you might not miss a variable power scope.
