    Magnetospeed heading back

For only $100 more, you can buy a mount for the Magnetospeed that won't mess with your barrel's harmonics: https://wiser-precision.myshopify.com/ At this point, you're approaching the price of a LabRadar... so yeah.

Just upgraded Strelok to Strelok Pro. Wow!

I shoot mainly 6.5 Creedmoor and my current 147g ELD-M loads reach 2500 fps and stay supersonic out to about 1200 yards. So I have been comparing the various ballistic calculators out to that distance by putting in all of the same variables in each, and making things easy for the calculators...

Just upgraded Strelok to Strelok Pro. Wow!

Horus vigorously defends their patents and thus it is unlikely to see it in Strelok Pro anytime again soon. Look at the price difference between Horus & Non Horus reticles of the same scope designs. That's how much royalty they get. What Igor should do is let us upload our own reticle images...

Talk me out of a Kestrel and Sig BDX Rangefinder.

Thanks for the input guys! For now, I am going to explore low-cost solutions until I can see what the new 2019 devices look like. So, today I got my hands on a weatherflow weathermeter, about $60: (https://www.amazon.com/Weatherflow-Handheld-Smart-Phone-Weather/dp/B011WT29HO)...

Bushnell Elite Tactical ConX Kestrel Sportsman Combo

I think what I might do for a cheaper option is to buy a cheap Bluetooth Weathermeter brand instead of the Kestrel at ($80 vs $800) Pair that with the 4DOF Hornady App on an old iPhone that can stay in the range bag. Then maybe get one of the cheaper laser range finders that doesn't have any...

Bushnell Elite Tactical ConX Kestrel Sportsman Combo

I hope so. I gather that they just gave up on windage because it is the most complicated thing to display. You've got your minimum wind (maybe 0), your maximum wind/gusts, the average, and those are all numbers a shooter needs to see in real-time to pick a particular windage hold or somewhere...

Bushnell Elite Tactical ConX Kestrel Sportsman Combo

Saw this: Was ready to pull the trigger on the purchase until he said that the rangefinder won't give you a windage holdoff in the display, only elevation. So you still need some kind of a spotter person to give you windage, or else you're getting up and marching over to wherever you set your...

Talk me out of a Kestrel and Sig BDX Rangefinder.

This is what I have now to set up my shots: For temperature and humidity, I have a Honeywell sensor that came with a humidifier. The accuracy is questionable, but it's better than putting %50 in. For wind speed and temperature, I have a small handheld wind unit that I use for sailing. The...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

Glad I’m not the only one. My new 8.4” 300 BLK has groups like that but I’m still learning what it likes to be fed, doing ladders and data analysis as if it were a precision rifle. I don’t know why, habit, curiously. It puts holes in things, so good enough?

6.5CM Hornady Brass Life and Loose Primer Pockets?

That’s pretty cool, I’ve clocked factory around 20 S-D consistently so I figure anything over that I’ve done something wrong and less then 10 is a step in the right direction. I was surprised to see less than 5 for the first time, so either my brass is better or I’m getting better at reloading...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

Nope, but you're gonna wanna do things to keep lapping compound where it shouldn't go, eg in the threads, between the tool and the receiver where it will make things worse not better etc... I wrap the threads with tape, oil up the shaft (hah) and check frequently that I'm only grinding the top...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

MIL-C-70599 (AR) Milspec TDP for accuracy 4.5 MOA @ 100 yards. If you're happy with that, (and there's nothing wrong with it for killing bad guys), then don't lap or true or bother with floating handguards etc... I think most of us here are chasing the sub-MOA dragon, so we lap our stuff, tune...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

There's nothing special about Mil-spec. They're just dimensions with tolerances and as long as accumulated tolerances don't cause a malfunction it's good to go. Military is all about when the trigger is pulled a bullet comes out each and every time without fail, accuracy is secondary. Lapping...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

Someone try this on their next build, before the barrel is torqued on: 1. Assemble the BCG with bolt, cam pin etc... and put it in the upper as you normally would. 2. Without installing the barrel to the upper, put a no-go gauge in the barrel. 3. Dry fit the barrel to the receiver, push it in...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

The way vendors do it is they grab a random bolt from a pile, a random barrel, shove a go/no-go gauge in there, then by hand, twist the bolt in and call it good if it locks on the go and doesn't on the no-go. Is that how your bolt works inside a bolt carrier? The next time you do an AR, but...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

Headspace in the chamber is measured from the bolt face to wherever the extension chamber stops the bullet, somewhere along the shoulder. When you lap the upper receiver, you're moving that point in the extension chamber closer to the bolt face. You can also jack up the alignment of the feed...

    Beleiver in AR lapping

The best way to do it, if you can, take your barrel to the gun store and find which upper it doesn't fit in by hand. That's the one you want, bring it home. Then, chuck your barrel in the freezer overnight to shrink the steel. On the upper, use the lapping tool to get to the aluminum...
