New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I haven't looked through the SLX 5-25x56 but if the GLX is supposed to be a step above that in glass/turrets, then I can tell you the EP5 is definitely ahead of the SLX and has a lower MSRP. Biggest complaint about the EP5 is weight(almost 40oz). Though, if you want a chevron reticle, PA is...
Finding the tip of the chevron was a little hard depending on lighting and aligning the height/thickness of chevron was some times an issue. Worked fine for shooting steel silhouettes, etc...but if I were shooting for groups or smaller targets, I'd rather have a fine dot. For fast shooting, I...
Had the Athena reticle on a 4-16 GLX. Didn't really work well for precision shooting but I thought it was decent for a MPVO. Literally just sold the scope and picking up a Bushnell Match Pro
Just realized this is how many aluminum shortblocks are designed. Makes me wonder if gun designs are just now catching up to what modern manufacturing allows?
Aluminum/magnesium ARs still have a steel bolt that interfaces into a steel barrel extension. I wonder if it's just something like that? We already have ARs in 300wm so just having steel where needed and aluminum elsewhere is feasible.
I'm waiting to see comparisons to the Bushnell Match Pro. I've looked through the SH4 and wasn't impressed, but the EP5 is definitely a nice scope. I don't usually pay attention to the parallax numbers but I think Arken got away from specific numbers because it wasn't lining up for a lot of...
I think piston guns are getting more popular as more people are running suppressors. A lot less effort to keep gas out of your face in addition to most of the piston guns having a simple adjustable gas block.
I like my Midas TAC more than the EP5, hence why I'm trying to see if anyone has tried the Match Pro. Seems very popular with the 22lr crowd.
I don't have an ARCA rail but may consider it. It feels top heavy with the Midas TAC, which is about 10oz lighter than the EP5.
I currently have an Athlon Midas TAC 5-25 scope on my CZ 457 but that pushes me into Open Class. Lack of chassis options(left handed) makes me reluctant on committing to Open and just keeping the rifle Base. I have an EP5 on another rifle that I can throw on there and keep me in Base, but it's...
I used this wrench (with paper to prevent any marks) to get the action off(along with a barrel vise):
Works well if you just need an action wrench just for the Tikka and nothing else.
Probably not much less; those deals/price drop is fairly recent and I'm sure the guys that are selling theirs probably bought it at the much higher price.
It's supposed to be, but I don't think it's good as far as value goes. My GLX cost around the price of my Midas TAC and EP5, but comes nowhere near the quality or performance. I thought the Helos BTR was better than the GLX. I'm happy with my PLX compact though.
It's not just coatings, but design/glass profile too. I've seen it in other optics where the different sizes do not actually scale. Not to mention, larger lens in general are inherently more sharp; though this does not mean it's true regarding the EPL4 vs EP5. Looks like it was just speculation.
....I heard people shitting on their magazines. I haven't personally use any of their stuff though....but then again all of my MDT mags have needed tweaking/tuning.
