    Grouping question.

How many shots per group? IMHO anything under 10 isn't really representative. I can shoot 3 3-shot groups at three targets and get three great groups. Overlay the targets so the aim point overlaps and the combined group is much larger. There is a reason circular error probable is the gold...

Leofoto, new Official Rifle Ball Head of PRS

Putting all issues of Chinese manufacture aside for a moment. So I'm not defending Leofoto. Also, not a lawyer but... IP dress is certainly enforceable in the US, and if RRS really had a solid claim, they could get it enforced. The issue is that they actually have a fairly weak case. The...

    Replacement M700 bolts

Yeah - too many PTG horror stories. Those bolts do look nice. Looks like I have a solution. I'll probably send the stock bolt to LRI for a handle installation. I think LRI does extractor upgrades too. Thanks all.

    Replacement M700 bolts

Does anyone know where I could get an M700 SA magnum bolt, other than PTG? I’m toying with getting a 6.5 PRC barrel to replace my 260 which is about 50% done. A custom action would be nice, but that’s not in cards for a year or two. Could I get the .473 bolt opened up? Thanks.

McGowen Precision Barrels - Great Customer Experience

I have 2 McGowen remage barrels. Both shoot about as well as my Criterion. Both have decent action and brake threads with the correct profile and length. No dealings with Customer Service. I didn't expect a bughole shooting barrel at the price and they work fine for ringing steel at the...

First They Go After The Little Guy - Battle Over Shooting Ranges

New Hampshire did something about this 20 years ago: 159-B:1 Exemption. – Notwithstanding the provisions of RSA 644:2, III(a) or any other law to the contrary, no person who owns, operates, or uses a shooting range in this state shall be subject to civil liability or criminal prosecution in...

The smoke from the fires in Canada is doing that. It's been pretty bad this year.

Report: Titanic Sub’s Electrical System Designed by College Students

It would not surprise me in the least if the failure point is identified as the junction between the CF hull and the titanium hemisphere with the window in it. I doubt that CF and titanium have a similar modulus, so they want to shrink under pressure at different rates. I suspect that caused a...

Report: Titanic Sub’s Electrical System Designed by College Students

I work with college interns a fair bit, and they can do good work, sometimes very good work. The issue here is not "Designed by interns", but a question of who their mentors were, how their work was validated and assessed, and the scope of the tasks being assigned. This being Oceangate, I...

    This definitely sucks. Submarine lost.

There are in fact similarities with the Apollo 1 fire. NASA were warned by the contractor that the pure oxygen environment at 16.7 PSI was a potential hazard, and there had been a number of serious fires in pure oxygen environments that were well documented. A mixed gas environment had been...

    This definitely sucks. Submarine lost.

In the US Canada, most likely. But what will then happen is that the companies will be registered somewhere like Bermuda, and the ships registered in Panama or some other flag of convenience country. And they will set sail from Bermuda too. The wreck of the Titanic lies in international...

    This definitely sucks. Submarine lost.

It's interesting to compare this contraption to the vessel that James Cameron built to travel to the Challenger Deep. Cameron showed that a non government agency could build a successful DSV. Oddly enough, Cameron used a small steel pressure sphere for himself. You can see it being forged in...

Who says it wasn't? Them that really know might just be keeping it to themselves for OPSEC reasons.

    This definitely sucks. Submarine lost.

I was flying out of an FBO at Norwood around that time. I was not night current, and was a low time pilot, so I booked a CFII and flew out to the Vinyard and back with a couple of stops to get current. With low fog just off the island, it was disorienting as heck after losing the visual...
