Gunsmithing what bbl to get for my 700

Re: what bbl to get for my 700 I like Krieger, Shilen, Schneider and Rock. I have had very good results from all of them. I have a Lilja on an AR, and it shoots really well. I would suggest truing the action, and use the Lilja. You have a lot of life left in it. Replace it when it's used up.

New stock better than Rem 5R stock, similar cost

Re: New stock better than Rem 5R stock, similar cost Clicky, teh stock you're referring to looks like the B&C A3 style. I believe their model# is 2956. A lot of folks rate B&C pretty low on the selection list, but I have used several of them and find them to be of comparable quality to HS...

Gunsmithing purchasing an Airbrush or HVLP

Re: purchasing an Airbrush or HVLP Harbor Freight can be your friend! I use their air brushes and small HVLP guns. Multiples are great for doing multiple colors. You clean them all at once, and you can spend the rest of the money on paint and ammo! They do a good job for Cerakote.

    Shilen barrels

Re: Shillen barrels I have used several Shilen's. Only their Select Match Grade. They have always been competitively priced with some of the other manufacturers, but always 10-20 less than most. They build a good product, and I have never had any problems. Shilen's are button rifled.

    H-S Precision Stock.PST007 (m24) Anyone used one?

Re: H-S Precision Stock.PST007 (m24) Anyone used one? Which model B&C did you get. I've used a number of both the B&C and HS Precision. I tend to prefer to skim bed the action and recoil lug, just to give it more stability. I've run across a few that were a few thou out of true, which could...

Gunsmithing Stripping a rem 700 bdl bottom metal

Re: Stripping a rem 700 bdl bottom metal If you have a small spray rig, you can use the Cerakote Air Cure system. Brownells carries that also. I think the Alumahyde is the only air dry coating in the rattle can. You can also contact KG Industries (Gun Kote) and use their air cure products in...

    Gunsmithing Aluminum Oxide Blasting Action/Barrel

Re: Aluminum Oxide Blasting Action/Barrel I strip the action completely and also blast inside and out (after plugging the chamber) and coat everything. As Hired Gun said....very nice and smooth bolt surfaces.

    What would you guys recomend

Re: What would you guys recomend I'm all for upgrading. You already have a good foundation and you're going to spend the money one way or the other. If you take it to a smith, you get exactly what you want.....buying one, you get what they have to offer

    Barrel question

Re: Barrel question I use stainless on most that I do. Relatively easy to work with and requires less maintenance. CM is a little more maintenance (to keep the rust down internally), but shoots just as well as SS, IMHO. Some folks, and barrel mfg's recommend not using SS in freezing temps...

Please help me make a decision!

Re: Please help me make a decision! I have the 300WM as well. Just love it. I used a ehavy barrel (Krieger #9) and a Limbsaver to tame the recoil. I shoot without a muzzle brake, but do use a suppressor occasionally. Handles real well w/out the suppressor

    Gunsmithing Gun Oven Questions

Re: Gun Oven Questions You can mount the hangers on a rack, or series of bars at a height that will serve most of your needs. Put in a removeable panel above that rack that you can pull out for the longer material. I used an old oven for parts an built mine to a 2x2 interior. Pretty good for...

    Gunsmithing Krieger contour question

Re: Krieger contour question At 20" a #18 will be around .97, but you reduce your breech diameter to 1.2 with that profile. A remington Varmint contour is about .87 @ 20". It boils down to what you want for finished muzzle dia, breech dia, and breech length; whether you want a straight...
