    I'd start by looking at the Steiner PX4 1-4, Razor G2 1-6, and I've read lots of good things about the Eotech 1-6 and Burris 1-8. for more coin, the Razor G3 is a great optic, as is the NX8 if you are looking for something really small & light.

    as much as I'd like to drop $4k+ on a Hensoldt spotter, I just cannot justify that to myself. I'd like to spend less than that on a spotter + tripod & saddle that can run double duty for spotting & shooting. I expect the tripod & head are going to be well over $1000.

    LVPO all the way for a top tier AR (or any AR for that regards). with minimal practice your splits will be just as fast and you'll gain a ton of flexibility for target ID/mid range. what's your budget?
