    Rifle Scopes Nikon FX-1000

I'll have to admit one thing for sure. It shows it was designed by someone who shoots a lot at different ranges. Windage and elevation both have multiple UP and RIGHT arrows.

    Howa 1500 Barreled Action - 6.5 Creedmoor - 24 Inch - Heavy #6 - Threaded

Good point. I've always gone with SS before, but I'm seeing so many rifles coming out nitrided today I was just curious. In a way, for me it really doesn't matter since all my bullets are coated with hBN (hexagonal Boron Nitride). The bearing resistance is heavily reduced in both chromalloy and...

    Howa 1500 Barreled Action - 6.5 Creedmoor - 24 Inch - Heavy #6 - Threaded

Well, I picked up the barreled receiver earlier today from my FFL. I was impressed at the bluing. The finish is extremely dark, uniform, and shiny. After fitting the Timney #611 to the receiver, I was about to mount everything in the temporary Hogue stock I plan to use for break-in, when the...

Rifle Scopes Polarizing filter for rifle scopes

Well, I thought my prescription sunglasses are polarized, but I could be wrong. When I get through reviewing the Sightmark Citadel, I may play around with it a bit. One thing I was thinking, despite the LE/MIL only place's product, is that proper polarization should probably take place in...

Rifle Scopes Polarizing filter for rifle scopes

I guess a film might work if it is in a frame that keeps it perfectly flat. The only problem is a polarizing filter has to be rotated to filter out the correct waves. I can see some kind of rubberized sleeve that locks the diopter ring by gripping further up on the scope body, then having some...

Rifle Scopes Polarizing filter for rifle scopes

I really should get my duckduckgo in a row before posting. Found this: http://ustacticalsupply.com/weaponsightpolarizer.aspx For LE/MIL only though. I notice that the polarizer is designed for the occular lens rather than the objective, which makes sense.

I did not know that (obviously). :) Thanks.

Rifle Scopes SightMark Citadel 5-30x56 LR2 Riflescope SM13040LR2: a running review

A little progress today. The 44.3 Reloder 15 charge in the thrice fired LC/LR cases did have a higher average velocity than the Prvi Partizan PPU cases and the standard deviation was much better due to hand weighing on each charge. Here are the chronograph results: 2624 2609 2614 2599 2619...

Rifle Scopes Polarizing filter for rifle scopes

I saw this topic mentioned briefly in another thread, but not much since. I used to be a semi-pro photographer. The most useful filter I used was a polarizing filter. Think back to the vibrant colors of Miami on "CSI Miami." When you see Miami (or anyplace else for that matter) with nothing but...

Smokeless powder moisture content. Something else to consider

Great point. Luckily, I started reloading in the dinosaur days when powder hoppers would score or melt if you left the powder in them to long, so I always empty as soon as I'm done for the day. I wonder if there's a convenient way to check the moisture content?

    Self Defense or Murder

This is such a sad situation. Reflect. What are we taught in concealed carry classes? What are we continually reminded about in all concealed carry training books, videos, and courses? De-escalate. I sympathize with the old guy, but he is not the parking police. The wife shouldn't have...

Smokeless powder moisture content. Something else to consider

I just ran across this on thefirearmblog.com, referring to an article by Vihtavuori. "Comparing results showed chamber pressures increased from 320 MPa to 355 MPa with the dried powder, and the muzzle velocity increased accordingly from 770 m/s to 790 m/s (2526 to 2592 fps). And note, this is...

Rifle Scopes scope tracking test tool advice

Nice looking rig. What are you planning? Sandbags on the front and clamp the rear down? As long as it's solid, you should be good to go. The only hitch I can think of, making sure that the grid on the target matches your scope; inches for MOA, centimeters for MIL.

What would be the best length barrel for creedmoor hunting rifle build

Here's another thought. Try it 22" for a season. You can always lop off another 2". If the 22" works ok for your hunting style, that leaves 2" of barrel to rechamber if needed. Anyone still doing that? In my old hunting days, it was common practice to shoot out the throat and rechamber to...

    Forster Micrometer Seating Die Issue

Fascinating. I guess I am better off polishing my old style hardened stem then. I've been pretty lucky so far reloading .308 with it. I take it by your description, you're loading .264, which is a far longer bullet. From your description, I would be willing to bet that the bore gap between the...

    Forster Micrometer Seating Die Issue

That is odd. From my inspection of my die and the Forster diagram, a properly adjusted stem should ride up in down in the die chamber bore which should have a tolerance of around .001. Theoretically, since the stem sits in the chamber bore, it should not be able to flex, at least not more than...

    Forster Micrometer Seating Die Issue

Good luck on the new die. I recommend when you get it, thoroughly disassemble and clean it. It might be a good idea to take a bullet of the appropriate caliber and test it's clearance through the upper bore of the die chamber. I believe it should be a very close tolerance, but the bullet should...

    Howa 1500 Barreled Action - 6.5 Creedmoor - 24 Inch - Heavy #6 - Threaded

The Criterion avenue looked like a good possibility. They advertised both nitiriding and chrome lining for the Howa 1500 pre-fit barrels. The only gunsmith I know of that specializes in Howa's is Pac-Nor, and they have only stainless steel and chromalloy, no nitride or chrome lining. Since the...

    Howa 1500 Barreled Action - 6.5 Creedmoor - 24 Inch - Heavy #6 - Threaded

Maybe if I wait for a while, I can get the Howa 6.5 on sale. On the flip-side, I wonder if I would have bought the Creedmoor after I read their FAQ on barrel life: "in the neighborhood of 2,000 – 3,000 rounds with an untreated barrel." http://criterionbarrels.com/support/criterion-barrel-life...
