Re: hunting for the blind
Tremendous story -- thanks for your devotion to your son and for sharing that with us. You should share with a wider audience, perhaps a national magazine or paper or even possibly a news organization.
Re: Hunting Head Shots
Made many a head shot over the years -- just never thought to take pics. Now I know why -- the pics are not very flattering for the game, even though they may be for the shooter. Guess that is the idea -- to showcase the shot, not the critter. Good shots!
Re: Twist for 300wsm
Guys, would finished barrel length determine the preferred twist? For example, given the desired bullet weight is 165 - 190, would you recommend same twist whether the barrel was 20" or 26"?

No
+1 Molded in is NOT an option: gotta paint it.
That is what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure. Thanks.

Re: Coyote hunt/target shoot East Tx
Cool. No longer live in Alto, but get back occassionally. Would love to try to make it. I'll check back with you tomorrow. Thanks for putting this kind of thing together!
Re: Coyote hunt/target shoot East Tx
That is a heck of an offer. I have some property in Cherokee County but it is all wooded (and hilly) -- not good for coyotes and no long shots whatsoever.
Re: how we skin deer in the evergreen state [graphic ]
That method works -- except with certain shot placements, like head or neck shot. Head will pull off. Been there -- done that!
Re: loading bench Question
I found that a mechanics tool chest (such as a craftsman) -- with a flat top and bearing-type drawers of varying sizes -- work well as a compact reloading bench. Simply bolt on a 3/4" piece of plywood to the recessed top and you're good to go to mount a press, case...
Re: Questions about Antelope and calibers
Heck man -- you dont have the perfect rifle for this hunt. That means you need to buy youself another one!!! Seriously, other than the .223, any of those would work. If you go with a guide, he may not let you make those long shots. I would suggest...
Re: Daughters Beaver
If I recall correctly, a 330 has about 10-inch jaw spread while 220 has about 7 inches.
Beavers may be good to eat with proper seasoning, but I tried eating one on a primative outing without any seasoning and was hard to stomach. Tried grilling in over fire and also...
Re: Opions on .243 85 gr.HPBT Sierra Gameking
I just started using it in my .243 with 28-inch barrel (at 3175 fps). Very accurate to 300 yds when bullets are sorted by weight. Have killed a couple of deer, but they both were head shots so cant comment on wound channels. Did shoot a bobcat...
Re: Skin on or off?
Oh, and aging is a personal choice also. Some find no advantage in it, while others do. Aging helps to tenderize the meat to some degree (although it takes several days) and also enhances the flavor. This works as a result of enzymes acting on the meat. Tenderness is...
Re: Skin on or off?
Well, each to his own I suppose -- and everyone has his/her own way to doing things. However, being an Animal Science major I took some meats courses at Texas A&M and recall a study that was conducted there years ago (albeit with deer). They found that the meat was in no...
Re: Advice on an Alaska Gun!! 338,300,375?????
I too am planning a build for Alaska (and the larger game elsewhere). While any of the 300s would probably be adequate, I have other rifles in 30 caliber and less, so have decided on the .338 win mag with a short stiff 20-inch barrel and handy...
Re: too heavy? please help
Its all about compromises. A heavy rifle is much easier to shoot accurately. Technique, practice, and muscle toning makes all the difference. Go with a lighter rifle only when it is necessary.
Re: Hawks kill my boss man's chicken?
Best to call your local USDA Wildlife Services office. This is the old Animal Damage Control office, but had a name change a few years back. They are possibly listed under USDA or Federal Gubment. They can fill you in on all the laws and tell you if a...
