    6.5 "Shorty" Rifle build

K&P. The rifle was built by Chad Dixon at LRI. The chamber reamer was designed for the 143 ELDX bullet.

Hunting & Fishing Lightweight Hunting Rifles

Love my .280AI Mine is a PRS rifle that works as a bean field rifle or a "Sendero" rifle as we say in south Texas. Would love to have a .280AI as a light weight Elk rifle, but I think I will go with 7mm SAUM for the short action. My lightweight Alpine rifle is a 6 lb 6.5 Creedmoor built by Chad...

Gunsmithing Pre-64 Win Mod 70 Scope Base

One was built in 1962. It was originally a 30-06. The one I am sourcing will be .375 H&H length and don't know the year.

Gunsmithing Pre-64 Win Mod 70 Scope Base

PS One action is a 1962 (33 Nosler), the other is being sourced. I am am hoping a .375 H&H length action can accommodate 300 PRC. Will make a hell of an Elk/Moose rifle.

Gunsmithing Pre-64 Win Mod 70 Scope Base

When building a custom pre-64, what do you guys do for scope bases. Chad Dixon is going to build me 2 heavy recoiling rifles (33 Nosler and 300 PRC) and I have been all over the internet looking for "period correct" bases that I feel comfortable with. At this point, maybe Chad can just machine...

    What Kowa spotter

I am a hunter who shoots PRS stuff only as practice....not really competitively. My requirements are for a packable spotter. I am upgrading from a mid-level Vortex spotter. From what I have seen, the Kowa TSN 554 looks awesome as a hunting spotter. Doug or anyone have an opinion?

    Upgrade my range finder

Sounds like a good system Just purchased some Swaro 12x56. I hunt Pronghorn on the flats and Audad in the mountains. Need to see them 1 mile plus and shoot 400yds and less

    Upgrade my range finder

For hunting, having great binos paired with a great rangefinder would be ideal. However, I heard the chief range finder engineer at Leupold describe why that is so difficult. He says you take a $1,000 bino and a $500 range finder and you do not get a $1500 combo. You get a $3,000 unit with a 2...

    Upgrade my range finder

Kilo is awesome and I don't mind loading profiles up front. Just don't want to look at 2 things while trying to kill an animal. I want to laze an animal and get a shooting solution to dial. Sounds like the kilo can accomplish with a little enviro thrown in.

    Upgrade my range finder

Sounds like a good value...I will check it out. I hear Leupold is going to incorporate a ballistics calculator in their 2800 series, but hunting season begins for me in September with pronghorn on the plains......need it before then

    Upgrade my range finder

My range finder is 4 year sold and in need of a refresh. What is current out there. I know a year go the Sig Kilo was hot. Any new range finders with a decent built in ballistic calculator? My application is mainly hunting so I don't use a Kestrel and would prefer not to look up a solution on my...

$100 seems to be the going rate. I shot at Joshua Creek last week in Boerne area, for $100. Had some nice steel out to 1020 yds. Targets were 482 (sig range finder) 600, 880 and 1020 on the setup where I was. I believe they have other targets on the place. It is a huge shooting preserve for...

Howard Dietz was a friend of mine. I miss him. I used to shoot sporting clays with him and he built me a rifle once. He was a fantastic gunsmith and specialized in benchrest rifles.
