Has anyone here ever thought about vacuum packing loaded ammo for storage?

308 winchester with heavy VLD bullets

In my experience the VLD's like to be soft seated or run at least.020" off the lands. This is going to be tough to get in the magazine. A 185 hybrid can easily be stuffed to mag length and run fine. You will have to do some testing with the short barrel. All the lad info I have is for a longer...

    Jewell triggers are pussies

+1 on the CG trigger. Since I got my first CG, I have not been back to a jewel. YMMV-Rob

Bolt gun build, how to start?

Just my 2 cents worth. You can start with a good factory gun. Learn the limits of the weapon. Learn to load beyond the limits of the weapon. Until you KNOW the factory gun is holding you back you can't appreciate the precision of a custom gun. Building the gun is secondary to building a...

Rem 700 223 need some help

If it is a jewel trigger it's toast. Probably. I actually killed a factory trigger with a pierced primer in a 223.

    308 bullet choice

OK, So the poll is "Favorite" bullet. I chose the 155 as well, for much the same reasons already stated above. Although the 200 hybrids are by far a better bullet choice at long range. 1000 yrds. The ballistic coefficient is out of this world on the 200's. They just are not practical for...

    And so it begins

Happy New Year 2014! I hope his new year finds everyone well. While it is a new year, that is not the beginning of which I speak. I am starting a new .308 build. I have been down the road more than once. But this time it is a little different. I started out with a factory Rem 5R. I moved...

    Cerakote on a Defiance action?

I would suggest that you mask off inside the action if you plan to coat the bolt. If you coat the bolt and the inside of the action it will bind, even black. Rob

    208 A-Max

Would you rather they all weigh within .1gr and they cost $10 a box more? I have shot thousands of the 155 lapua bullets. I weighed a few. They usually came in at about 154.7. My time is better spent weight sorting he brass. More gain for that pain. YMMV-Rob

sierra 220gr rn subsonic 308 load

It is funny how the question gets so turned around. The original poster is looking for info on the 220gr ROUND NOSE. I am following this thread with interest because I have the same question. Because the ballistic coefficient is so low on these bullets I would expect them to slow down faster...

    Review my Remington 700

Great first attempt. I would suggest shooting from the prone position, or a more solid bench. Second, learn to reload and invest in that equipment. Pick one load that wll reach out to at least 600 yards and shoot, shoot, shoot. Clean your factory barrel a few times thoroughly during the first...

    R700 .223 accurizing for F-Class TR

I would go ahead and get a 7 twist. You could shoot 80's if you want. I have a 26" 7 twist .223 that will go to 1K with 80's. But it is more suited to the 600 yard line. Wind is brutal past 600. Rob

F T/R Competition Which Trigger?? CG, Jewel, Timney

The jewel has a small anvil inside that pivots on a pin. Pressure down through the trigger will split that anvil. $35 fix,but about a six week turn around to jewel. That is killing a jewel. That being said, you keep your pressures in check they are a great trigger. Rob
