Best overall SA 308 bolt face competition caliber?

Re: Best overall SA 308 bolt face competition caliber? Steve, I've a 6mm barrel on the way and am seriously debating a straight 243 or 6XC. Elpers is hammering his 6XC, and I believe that there is a bump in barrel life over a straight 243, but am not sure. Straight 243 with 115 DTAC's is...

    fast twist .223

Re: fast twist .223 24.4 grains of 8208 xbr in a LC 09 case, lit by wolf SRM primers. AICS Mag fed into 26 or 27" Brux barrel on a TAC 30 action. 2.490" OAL, if I recall correctly. I only went with 82gr over 80.5 because I caught a screaming deal on them from a friend, and bought...

    fast twist .223

Re: fast twist .223 look at berger 80.5 full bore or 82gr bthp. Great bullets. I point the 82gr BTHP with the Whidden system, and am sending them from a straight .223 (6.5 twist) at 2905. It hammers.

Range Report Thoughts on the .223 AI?

Re: Thoughts on the .223 AI? Love a 223ai, I have 2 of them. My go to hunting rifle is a 223ai at 22", and it hits hard and accurate...75 amax at 3050, 80gr JLK at 2950, and 75 SS2 at 3000. I also have a straight 223 with a longer barrel (Brux 26") that is sending 82 bergers at 2900, and...

    Gunsmithing Cerakote, Durakote in Houston?

If you were building a match rifle ......?

Re: If you were building a match rifle ......? Run your .308 in a match and then figure out what works for you and what doesn't. You'll save a lot of headache and money, trust me. Otherwise, I'd build a 260.

    Aaron Roberts Built .260

Re: Aaron Roberts Built .260 Nice rifle! Aaron is a hell of a guy, and an even better gunsmith. He put together my 223, and a 260...in record time...and has been absolutely one of the best people that I have worked with in any capacity. I highly recommend his shop.

F T/R Competition For the Houston FTR shooters

Re: For the Houston FTR shooters Denys is not correct. I sent a formal request to the board, and was granted approval for my suppressor. It's a silly step, but a necessary one with Bayou nonetheless...I also wish they would allow steel on the long ranges. Thanks Mark, you guys made it...

F T/R Competition For the Houston FTR shooters

Re: For the Houston FTR shooters Let me say that Mark and crew made my first f/tr match very welcoming and easy to understand last weekend. I shot my little 223 at 600, and fared pretty well for a first timer...too bad we only got one relay in. Originally, I had planned on using the match to...

    .223

Re: .223 Still have the 223ai, still love, but I hate forming brass. More importantly, my main competition rifle is a 26" .260, and I wanted to set up the .223 identically to it for training without burning my 260 barrel up. Probably overkill, I admit. I use the Whidden pointing system. It's...

    XBR 8208/ Help with targets

Re: XBR 8208/ Help with targets 8208 his my favorite powder for .223 with heavies and .308 with 155's. Mine doesn't shoot any dirtier than other powder.

    .223

Re: .223 Russell - I think I have more room to step on it, but I'm happy with where I am speed/accuracy wise. The primers are slightly flat, but I have no bolt lift issues, and no case head marking. We'll see how long the primer pockets hold. "Unpointed call" is the output that my ballistic...

    .223

Re: .223 Wind is SLIGHTLY less than my .308 155 load. With a 10 mph wind from my 3:00 at 2000 DA: 600 yards - 1.2 mils, 1000 yards - 2.3 mils. The only downsides are 1) tough to spot misses and correct at longer distances 2) Not a lot of energy on target at distance, so impacts are tough to...

    .223

The ".223 Long Range" thread prompted me to post this, as I am a big fan of the .223 for long range match shooting. In an effort to prove just how effective a properly set up .223 bolt gun can be, I decided to go ahead and post this. I've been an active "tactical" competitor for a couple of...
