I have a Masterpiece Arms MPA BA 6.5 CM being built and have been researching the mount and scope. This rifle will be a for range use / distance competition / maybe a little stationary hunting but it weighs a lot and I have other stuff for hunting. I want to get out to 1200 yards with this...
Thank you, yes I've learned over time to take some action even if its not ideal. When I racked it to clear I didn't look / notice anything coming out as I was getting back on target and then no boom again and I'm thinking well this is weird. Then pulled the charging handle and see 2 rounds...
I was doing a US Arms competition Thursday and in 1 stage my previously rock solid Daniel Defense with a few thousand rounds through it had a misfeed. I rack the charging handle to clear it and another round feeds in partially. I eject the magazine and both rounds are partially in chamber. I put...
good looking rifle.. very nice job on the build. I have a Model 98 Mauser that my dad modernized and polished the bolt years ago. It shoots about 2 MOA from the bench with hunting ammo. What kind of accuracy or you getting with yours?
I went with the MPA BA in 6.5 CM. I saw the suggestion about having them add a switch lug to the build. Allows for swapping calibers and barrels in a few minutes is what I’m seeing. Does adding a switch lug have an impact on accuracy? Any negative to a switch lug?
I went with MasterPiece Arms.. it seemed the best for what I needed / wanted at my price point. My knowledge of building my own wasn't sufficient to not screw it up.. I think that down the road when I know more that would be fun to do.
Not sure what you mean by "blaming" the rifle and 308. The 2 day class had some competitions mixed in. Also everyone got to shoot about 5 rounds from other folks rifles. Some of the rifles / optics were 4 x the cost of mine and I could definetly tell a difference using flatter shooting rounds vs...
Appreciate everyone’s input and suggestions. I went with the Masterpiece Arms rifle in 6.5CM.. has a 3/8 MOA guarantee should be great to start with. Now wait 12 weeks or so for delivery so plenty of time to explore scopes and rings. I’m leaning towards the Vortex Razor in 5 - 27 and seekins...
Everything I own is in a traditional stock so leaning towards a chassis for this rifle. I'm not set on 6.5 CM it just seems like the next best step up. I went to a long range course and my combination of 308, Bergara HMR Pro and Vortex PST gen II 3 - 15 I was "outgunned" significantly by some of...
Thank you this looks very interesting.. I may be demonstrating my total lack of knowledge but I'm not seeing an option for 6.5 CM? Is the TL3 Bighorn action worth the $225 additional over the Big Horn Origin action? Is all that would be needed is having them put 1 of these into a chasis...
Thanks I’m leaning heavily towards the 6.5 CM. I already have a bergara HMR pro in 308. Looking for something a notch above it. What type of accuracy are you getting from the Impact action?
Very limited knowledge in the high end / custom bolt gun options. I want a nice bolt gun for extended range, and PRS style competitions. My main goal is accuracy.. and getting hits out to 1200 yards. I have bolt guns that I use for hunting so not worried about weight. I am heavily invested in...
I shot 180 grain Federal Fusion and it didn't do well with that at all .. 1.5 - 2 inch groups. I shot a lot of 175 FGMM and it was about 1 inch at 100 yards. The 168 grain FGMM has been the best at about 3/4 inch at 100 yards. I shot my Bergara and my friends Savage both with the same 168 FGMM...
I bought a new Bergara HMR Pro in 308 and with Atlas bipod and rear bag the best I am getting is around .7 - 1 inch groups at 100 yards with 168 grain FGMM. I am a little dissapointed honestly as I have a precision AR that will duplicate this. I was really hoping that the Bergara would be a .5...
I shoot IDPA and various steel pistol competitions. Just go to IDPA your 1st time and focus on safely navigating the course of fire and accuracy (don't rush). Run your concealment holster (OWB is best) and carry 2 extra mag's. You wont win anyting regardless and after going some you can begin to...
I can open up the $ spend if it significantly improves the gun. I don't see the logic in getting into GAP, AI, custom etc for a gun that will be beat up. Thanks for everyone's feedback.
So what do you recommend? I would be OK with 18" to 20" barrel but really don't see the need for a longer barrel on a 308 that will be in the woods and deer stands in GA most of its life. I have shot extensively with a 300 WM and 308; never had a 308 that was an issue with recoil.
Thanks Mosquitoshooter. I had a Rem 700 Sendero in 300 WM that was very dissapointing from an accuracy standpoint. How is 5R diffrent from the Sendero? What is better about the 700 5R vs the Tikka 3?
I'm looking for a general purpose bolt 308. This will be used for hunting and shooting steel. I want to get maximum accuracy (at least sub MOA) with good factory ammo and light weight with a durable action. Ideally 18 '' barrel. Without going high $ custom route is their a better choice than...
