Re: New to F/TR and deciding on a rifle
I felt that my Savage F / TR was such a value for the money that I purchased the F Open in 6 BR. My load will shoot 4 shot groups at 100 yards ~ 1/4 - 1/3 of an inch. Shooting it tomorrow in the mid range regional out side of Cincinnati.
Re: New to F/TR and deciding on a rifle
I know that you said that you made up your mind. Just in case you get a change of heart, I do not think that you can go wrong with the Saveage model 12 F / TR. I took off the funky cheek rest and installed an adjustable model from Karsten. Spend the...
Re: Winchester 52 D scope mount suggestions
I forgot to mention that the EGW rail appeared to work just fine. It does not allow the scope to come to the rear as far as I would prefer, but still seemed pretty stable considering the set up.
Re: Winchester 52 D scope mount suggestions
The range report is basically good. As might be expected, the better the ammo, the better the group. Wolf target led the way with five shot group at 50 yards that was 0.25 inches. The next best was SK at 0.51 and then Federal at 0.61 inches.and...
Re: Broken EOtech
I have not experienced this type of failure with my Eotech which I have had for ~ 6 years. I do have a problem when I get the AR out of the safe after 6 months or so and the systems seems to have changed requiring a couple of MOA change in the optics and then it takes a bit...
Re: 6.5x55 swede - how hot is safe
It is Federal Brass. A number of years ago they loaded some 6.5x55 ammo. I know that there are likely better cases out there, but the price is good. Good advice on velocity and accuracy. thanks
Re: 6.5x55 swede - how hot is safe
I happened upon a thousand pieces of brass for the 6.5x55 so I thought it would be a good idea to have a rifle that I could use the brass for.
I am seriously considering a build of a Remington 700 action into a 6.5x55 long range steel rifle. I understand that the reloading books are concerned about 100 year old rifles shooting modern ammo, so what have you folks experienced with a reasonable hot load which can go beyond the reloading...
Re: Caliber Choices - Comparison and Applications
I am interested in the 6.5x55 round and wonder in a modern Remington 700 action, what would be a reasonable target velocity with 142 SMK bullets and a 26" barrel. I am not looking to set records, but would like to wring out as much as I can...
Re: Which rimfire to practice fundamentals
I purchased a CZ 455 for just the purpose of practicing various shooting positions in prep for my first elk hunt this fall. The rifle is plenty accurate enough at 100 yards to hit a 6" plate if I do my job. It also comes equipped with studs for...
Re: Winchester 52 D scope mount suggestions
I received my EGW rail and everyting looks good. It fit as advertized. Now to the range with a variety of ammo.
I seems pretty clear that some muzzle brakes may change the POI significantly. I can test this easily enough at the range. What about velocity - I would prefer not to have to purchase a chrono at this time. It is in the future as I load more. If enough of you report no apprecible change...
Is there a general rule of thumb about whether muzzle brakes move the point of impact relative to no brake. I ask, because I would like to use the same rifle for tactical / steel plate shooting where I could use a brake and mid range or long range NRA shooting where brakes are not allowed. I...
Re: Rounds striking right on occasion
Perhaps canting is an issue at longer ranges. Also, a right twist barrel will move the round right at very long ranges. At 600 - 1,000 yards with my 308 I add around 1/2 - 3/4 MOA Left windage.
I am taking my first elk hunt this October and have a 300 Win Mag as my rifle. I dug a mostly unused Leupold VX 1 out of the gun safe to go on this rifle. I have been working up some loads and now I want to mark the zero placement on the elevation. On my tactical and long range scopes I can...
Re: Sightron SIIISS vs Vortex Viper PST
I have both and the glass is about the same. The problem that I have had with Vortex is that on two different scopes the turrets loosened up and the clicks have slop in them. I will be sending one of them back for sure. The Sightrons which have seen...
