Best mount for pic rail over scope.

    Hawkins is great.

PRS Talk Better bullets or more practice?

I think it's a bit of a false construct to put this into a question of just Berger Hybrids vs. 105 BTHP and some extra practice rounds. The overarching issue to overcome is this... Not enough money, Not enough time. We all face this problem to one degree or another. Good decisions come when we...

PRS Talk Putting Ammunition In Clamtainers For Airline Travel

Haven't used Clamtainers, but they seem like they would be okay. I'd probably tape them closed to make sure nothing comes loose. FWIW I've never had anyone say anything about ammo weight. I travel with my daughter and enough ammo for 2 shooters for a 2 day match. Most of the ammo goes in one...

    PRS Talk How to progress?

Try this drill, it's a great way to practice being "slower" in the right places.

PRS Talk Movings together a rifle with the shooting bag

Yep, learn to do it like Jake. The 3rd video is a great example of how fast you can be when you are smooth and efficient in movement and fast to acquire the target... 10 positions, 10 shots, 90 seconds.

PRS Talk Best technics to get really stable ( standing / low standing / high kneeling)

I spent a number of years shooting with both option #1 and #2, currently use #2 since it fits better with the Foundation stock I'm shooting. I don't think I noticed any major difference between the two as far as stability. The number one thing IMO to work on is the stability and stillness of...

Precision Rifle Gear The best muzzle brake for PRS? A comparison video now available

@sab567 One of the spreadsheets above has a column labeled "MS before stop". Is that milliseconds before the reticle stops moving? If so, I think that's a cool way to think of what makes a muzzle brake good for PRS. Really, this is all about TIME and how quickly you are able to regain your...

    PRS Talk Manfrotto 055

I'm not a huge fan of the 055 tripod, I've owned it before and the center crown just has too much slop in it. If you're going to buy used photography gear you're probably better off tracking down a used Gitzo 1325 and put a RRS TA-3 on top.

Rifle Competition Events Match Backpack Approved For Airlines

Yep, carry all the gamechangers on. Dump them all in a separate bin at security and tell the TSA guy "you're going to need to inspect that". I think only once have they not had to do the full swipe and squeeze.

PRS Limiting MDs to Only 4 Matches Per Year?

Since this has become a sidebar commentary on the state of precision rifle competition, I'll give my perspective. I only track the pro series matches on my spreadsheet because there are WAY too many 1 day centerfire and rimfire matches for me to track. Looking at my own region there are 3...

PRS Limiting MDs to Only 4 Matches Per Year?

Just a quick clarification, the spreadsheet data includes both PRS members and non-PRS members, anyone who shot a 2 day Pro-Series match. It's based on a cut paste of the results which includes everyone even if they aren't a member.

PRS Limiting MDs to Only 4 Matches Per Year?

It's good to keep in mind that that the decisions that come out of the PRS organization are largely influenced and decided by all the match directors who vote on these sort of things.

    Barricade matches and “Possible” scores

New PRS skills stage introduced at the Finale this year specifically to address that. Two targets instead of one, two distances, far target much smaller than the near target, 5 positions instead of 4. You still have to move quickly but you needed to be accurate. Tiebreak winners this year...

    Barricade matches and “Possible” scores

Time is not tracked in PRS or 22 matches from stage to stage, only impacts. There is usually one stage designated as a tiebreak stage, where both time and impacts are tracked. For the tiebreak stage points matter first, then time is considered second. So a slow clean is better than a super fast...

PRS Limiting MDs to Only 4 Matches Per Year?

Could possibly be a regional decision, perhaps limited space on the calendar and more MD's who want to run matches. I suspect that would be something a regional director would handle.

PRS Limiting MDs to Only 4 Matches Per Year?

Any source for this? I checked with a local MD and they are planning more than 4 matches this year. Our new regional director runs a monthly club match at his range, and many other of our MD's run more than 4 per year. It's less than a month after the finale and we've already had 3 PRS regional...

PRS rule on moving wrong on stage

I've never seen rule set 1 enforced at any PRS match that I've been to, unless the course of fire specifically said Hit to Move on. I've seen it handled like rule set 2 many, many times. Rule set 1 seems wrong to me. What would be next? If you shoot at the wrong target are they going to make...

    What to buy next?

Looks good to me. You'll probably see an eventual preference for the slightly larger game changer bags (schmedium or +1) but no reason to go buy something now. Odds and ends to think about adding to the kit: Ammo management ie some sort of case/wallet/bag for loaded ammo and also one for...

Competing vs family life with small kids

Congrats man! If you make it a family affair it can be a real blessing. Hope to see you out in Idaho next year at the finale. My daughter whooped me (and a lot of other great shooters) this past weekend at the finale in Kansas. Stings a bit to get beat, but definitely a proud dad moment. :)

Competing vs family life with small kids

I didn't really get into PRS until our kids were a bit older, the youngest was around 6 when I started. My wife was super gracious to let me compete but I was home for almost everything else so the family still got to see a lot of me. Without my wife's support I'd never have been able to do...
