Questions: Military, not really Snipery, but vintage

This rifle is for sale in a Norwegian gunshop. (Dare I say $110?..) Scope and sidemount is obviously aftermarket. Sleeved barrel?

    I want a nice old Mannlicher-Schoenauer!

Can't remember if I have posted this video in another thread. If so, here it is again. This rifle was used, and I think finished 6th, in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne in the running deer events:

    U.S. Army/Navy/USMC M14-based sniper and DMR/SDM rifles circa late-1960s to late 201Xs

Here's a (bad) picture of my M14 from the late 1980'ies while serving in the Norwegian National Guard. The M14 is made by Winchester. Mount is SWAN (?) and scope is S&B 6x42 "PM2" with BDC clicks from 1 - 800m.

    Who’s the SH Air Gunners???

I shoot ISSF 10m moving target with a Walther LG400. I recorded this video of the 2022 European champ, shooting slow runs, who is infinitly better than me :) Fast runs:

Took a chance on this... So far, so good!

Even the original accessories from these gunmakers are expensive.. https://hollandandholland.com/range-rover

new project: MP44... FINISHED WITH VIDEO

I think this is a MG34. The MG15 with infantery kit looks different but is a very nice shooter with short bursts. The barrel gets too hot very quickly. Build quality on the MG15 is exellent. Probably the best I've seen in any MG. I've been inside this genuine MG15 tripod. I'll see if I can...

    MG34 things are happening

I had a 42 with 6.5x55 conversion kit for 45 seconds.. The 34 can be tuned to a 1moa gun in semi and 1.5moa full auto using a "rear br sandbag" as front rest instead of using the bipod. In 6.5x55 a scoped 34 is a 1300m "first burst hit" gun. Who needs a 20ibs 338lm bolt action sniper with 5...

    STEYR SSG69 QUESTIONS

Here's a picture of me, on the left with my SSG69 Match, from the Norwegian National Guard magasine in 1983. What is really interesting in this picture is the elderly man to the right, Trygve Bagåsen. During WW2 he was dodgin the GESTAPO and received weapons dropped in containers from RAF...

    STEYR SSG69 QUESTIONS

Carcajou: The old Remington 788 is actually very similar to the SSG69 with rear locking lugs and extremely short locktime. During the haydays of metallic silhouette shooting some shooters made comp rifles on the 788 action that was easier to shoot offhand than 700 based rifles. One could even...

    STEYR SSG69 QUESTIONS

The wood stock is the standard stock on the SSG69 Match with open sights. The Match has a 3/8" rail on top of the receiver instead of the milling for scope mounts for added stiffness. In the 70'ies the SSG69 Sniper/Sport with open sights, milled receiver and "7.62NATO battle chamber" was tested...

    Lets argue about the M24

    From the hide: A 308 sending a 198gr bullet with a G1 BC of 0.855 at 2750fps - that ain't too bad.... shots with less wind deflection than a 208gr Amax doing 3000fps https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/warner-flatline-30cal-loads-all-cartridges.6254934/...

    Lets argue about the M24

With a 1-8" barrel in 308 the M24 can be loaded with 198 Warner Flatline bullets in the magazine and still be backwards compatible with 7.62NATO ball in a shtf scenario. If I remember correctly the 198gr Flatline is supersonic to 1600yds out of a 308win.

    Belgian OIP 3.6X G3 Scope

Sorry, it's a one off from a local "ebay" in Norway.

    Belgian OIP 3.6X G3 Scope

I got this G3 OIP scope today, including the HK claw mount, for $120.. :) The scope was issued as a DMR scope for the AG3 in the Norwegian army in the 70'ies. The scope and mount is in 95%+ condition. BDC is from 100 - 800m with 50m clicks after 200m. (Note the velcro pads that keep the lens...

    Restoring a Vintage Scope

Dick Thomas, Premier Reticles, told me he was almost arrested while he was harvesting black widow silk behind a WC in a men's room at a gas station he happened to stop by :) I have an old US made Redfield 6-18x40 with a PR spider web dot reticle for moving target competition.

    Steyr SSG 69 w/scope

In the UK there are gunsmiths who change barrels in the SSG69. They press out the old barrel and thread the receiver for a new barrel. Here's a story of a SSG69 in 6.5x47 Lapua. https://www.thamesvalleyguns.co.uk/Steyr%20SSG69.pdf I got the same job done privatly in Norway many years ago. A...

New Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range (Announced)

I used to compete in Metallic silhouette with Lapua Scoremax. It had a 48gr bullet at 1050fps and it knocked over the targets like a hammer. Shot great in my Annie 1808 with 20" barrel. Never shot it past 100m though. I wish they could resume production of the Scoremax.

Steyr SSG 69 P1 Double Set Trigger Adjustment?

I sometimes used my private SSG69 in the Norwegian National Guard in the 80'ies, We prepared for being occupied by the Soviet union and based all weapons using Raufoss NM60 147gr NATO ball in a SHTF scenario. The SSG69 would perform exactly like the rifle in the video with the Raufoss ammo. If...
