    Gunsmithing 284 magazine fed repeater

I built my first 284 Win on a Savage SA which is limited to 2.86"-2.95" mag feed. I want to load to 3.20+ COL so I went with a Savage LA and I'm using the PMAG MAG671 (30-06) magazines which give me plenty of length (3.34"). I think a 30-06 action/magazine would be plenty long for 180/190 gr...

Maybe it's time to cull some of the pinned topics in the sub forums. Reloading has 50 pinned topics. Does almost every caliber need to be pinned?

Rifle Scopes Scope assistance for pig-headed son

So he wants a "tactical style" scope to be used on a Weatherby rifle that will be used mostly for target shooting? Hmmm. And he knows a lot more than his old man, right? Just ask him. I would suggest he look at a 6.5 caliber (260, 6.5 Creedmoor) in a Savage Axis and an Athlon Talos BTR...

What indications did you see that you were "getting light pressure"?

Variety is the spice of life or one rifle to rule them all?

I also recently decided to 'move up' from my standard SWFA 12X fixed scopes to the Athlon Midas TAC scopes. 6-24x50 on my 223 Rem and 6.5 Grendel, 5-25x56 on the 260 Rem, 284 Win, and 300 PRC. That's still less than one ZCO scope. I guess I'm still an optics cheap skate. :)

    .224V with 88 ELD/90 Berger factory loads?

Ok, just noticed this is a 224 Valkyrie question. That explains how it could mag feed with an ELDM 88. I was thinking 5.56/223. My 223 seats ELDM 75s at 2.40" and ELDM 88s at 2.51".

Variety is the spice of life or one rifle to rule them all?

It sounds like I'm not the only one who thinks variety is the spice of life. I shoot 223 Rem, 6.5 Grendel (semi), 260 Rem, 284 Win, and 300 PRC. Thinking about building a 6mm rifle. I have a Savage target precision action that needs a new purpose in life (it was previously used for a failed...

Any thought on Athlon Cronus spotting scope

A reticle in a spotting scope is most useful for providing actual mrad corrections to a shooter. If the reticle has range calculation crosshairs they can be used for range estimation, however I prefer to use an LRF for that. I have a Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 spotting scope with the 30x fixed...

Variety is the spice of life or one rifle to rule them all?

With regard to long range precision rifles, do you favor building/buying/shooting multiple rifles in different calibers or do you favor focusing solely on a single caliber for a longer period of time? For those that prefer shooting multiple calibers, do you prefer to standardize on a...

    .224V with 88 ELD/90 Berger factory loads?

Are you going to magazine feed? If so, how?

    Binoculars for Spotting with Eyeglasses

Do you think 1/12" (2mm) additional eye relief will be enough to "work" with your eye glasses?

Rifle Scopes Athlon Argos BTR owners?

One thing I learned from SLR camera lenses is that the more magnification the cost for good glass/optics goes up exponentially. I have an Athlon Talos BTR 4-14 and the optics are excellent for a $300 scope. I have 3 Athlon Midas TAC scopes (6-24 and 5-25) and the optics are great. I would not...

Rifle Scopes Advice for newbee - Which scope

Save the cash, buy the Cronus. Spend the rest on training. You'll be much better off in the long run.

Rifle Scopes Advice for newbee - Which scope

Maybe I missed it, but what caliber? Hopefully not 223 or 308. :) And you don't need to spend that much $ for a great rifle scope for LRP. Check the Athlon Cronus at CameraLandNY.

    300prc for elk?

The 300 Win Mag is a VERY effective Elk cartridge. The 300 PRC is ever so slightly better than the 300 Win Mag being able to seat long heavy bullets out to 3.7". Cue the 300 Win Mag guys that say you can do the same thing with a 300 Win Mag if you throat it 'properly' and have magazines that...

    300 PRC

Doing some load development. Ruger RPC, H1000, Hornady brass, Hornady Match sizer die with 0.334 neck bushing, A-Tip 230s, CCI 250 primers, 3.685" COL. 200 meters. Not sure why 78.5 offset to the right so noticeably. Edit to add: I wasn't running my Labradar as I am still working on a...

Rifle Scopes Will Razor 5-20x50 gen 1 do a mile?

Some simple math.... If the scope is capable of 125 MOA dialed elevation let's assume 62.5 up and 62.5 down. Add a 20 MOA rail and it has 82.5 up and 42.5 down. That gives you the 77 MOA up you need without even considering reticle hold over.

Rifle Scopes Optic suggestions/mounting needed for tiny face.

The correct optic for an AR "pistol" is.... iron sights. Sorry not the answer you want.

    300 PRC

I went back to the range this afternoon to try some more load development. Unfortunately I'm still trying get my LabRadar figured out, but it was not cooperating at all this afternoon. That was strike 1. I loaded 2 rounds each at 77.5, 78.0, 78.5, 79.0, 79.5, and 80.0 (H1000, Hornady brass...

    300 PRC

I am just starting load development for my Ruger RPR 300 PRC. When I bought the rifle the only powder I could find was 2 lbs of Viht N565 and Hornady brass. The only decent bullets I could find were A-Tip 230s. $ ouch. I have been using these to get the rifle "sorted out". Just as a...
