Check out my latest project - Dual caliber LR weapon system

As much as I love Magpul I'll never own a PRS again. I'm too old to lug that tank around. Did tactical rifles build that for you? Ahh... No. Home build as stated.

Check out my latest project - Dual caliber LR weapon system

Luth-AR Modular Butt Stock Assembly. Developed by Randy Luth the founder of DPMS. Half the weight and half the price of a PRS. The "MBA" - Modular Buttstock Assembly - luth-ar

Check out my latest project - Dual caliber LR weapon system

Thanks guys. The cool factor is high! Morgan I just LOVE the stock. It fits just like a PRS but half the weight of that boat anchor. Off a bag or off the shoulder it feels and fits great.

Check out my latest project - Dual caliber LR weapon system

I went into this project thinking to build a long range side charge 5.56 rifle. It ended up being a bit more than that as I tend to get a bit out of control. In the pelican case is a full weapon system in 2 calibers - 5.56 and 6.5 Grendel - all done in matching Tungsten and Black Cerakote...

    Gunsmithing Cerakote Training????

I have been coating for 3 years and done hundreds of guns. I consider myself to be pretty good but I'm still going to take the class. It won't be till next year due to the wait. My plans are to do it as a business part time until I retire then do it full time. You can do business without the...

The Archer and the Arrow - A Discussion

I see it this way. When it comes to OCD I am case ZERO. So I see everything I do though my OCD lenses. I like good gear and treat my gear addiction as a single symptom. I like to assemble the best that I can afford. Once assembled I use the gear, take it apart, modify it to make it better...

When to use expander mandrel on semiauto

It depends on what you want your case neck tension to be. If you are using a collet "S" type die then I would run the expander first then size with my chosen neck collet for tension. If you rising a standard die then the tension may be too high so I would run the mandrel through after you size...

    What Not to Do.

NEVER SMOKE POT BEFORE RELOADING! I have a friend who did and reloaded 200 rounds with no powder. Seriously I try to be in a good state of mind when I reload, especially on the progressive. Don't be rushed or let yourself be distracted. If you have to stop just don't walk away. End your...

Need advice on a new forend

Best route would be to dremel off the top of the A2 sight making it a flat gas block. Then dremel off the delta ring, remove the spring then attached a Samson Evo rail the length of our choice. Add a magpul or other flip up sight and you have an excellent AR. There are vids of how to do this...

    Opinions on switch barrel

I'm a switch barrel guy. (Savage) The utility of changing calibers is great. I also have alot of experience with the 22-250. IMHO the 20" would be a mistake. The 22-250 can be loaded to perform like the .243 if you use the heavy 80g bullets. My 26" 8 twist 22-250 barrel had the 80g Amax's...

F T/R Competition Sway me...Savage FTR or build an FTR from a R700 LA

If it were me (admitted Savage nut) I would go with the Savage and if you did not get a "shooter" then replace the barrel. There are some superb aftermarket Savage Prefits from McGowen, Shilen and Criterion that cost less than $300. You can get $150 for your stock barrel on savageshooters.com...

6.5-06 Amazing results with Power Pro MR

Just finished a 6.5-06 build on a Savage Action. Wanted to experiment so I opted for a cheap Shaw 26" SS Varmint Prefit from Gunshack which set me back a whopping $199. Had plenty of h4350 on hand so I made 3 round strings from 46g to 49g in .5 increments. Had a pound of Alliants PP4000MR I...

    "Drill bite" style case trimmers

Tried most of them. The Lee lock stud is easy but takes to long since you have to lock each case. The WTF is easy and fast. The Possum Hollow is cheap but does not have a bearing so the shoulder spins on so derlyn plastic. It gets hot and marks the case. I thought I would try the new...

    6.5-06 twist rate?

It will stabilize all but the long 1.35 long match 130's and 140's. It may stabilize those too but you never know until you try. Most are 1:8 or 1:8.5. Mine is a 26" 1:8 Shaw that shoots awesome with the 140 Amax.

    Gunsmithing Question about Chambering/Reaming

No it's a Savage. I have basic tools but I guess I should have asked if it could be done without a lathe. LOL

Dude tell us how you really feel!!! Not all members here are operators or mil/Leo snipers. Not all can afford a Surgeon or DTS. I can but prefer not to although I have had some nice rifles. I'll never run a tactical match although I shoot hundreds of rounds at steel at 1000 regularly. Your...

LOL Cobracutter. Maybe you should have read the OP's origional message. He is looking for a "starter rifle on a budge". What part of that made you think the rifle is going to be hard used? Don't be Savage hater dude. They flat out shoot well and and extremely flexible for those like to...

    Gunsmithing Question about Chambering/Reaming

Hello Hide gunsmiths. I'm a fairly competent, self taught armorer and Cerakoter. I've been venturing into more and more home "smithing" as time and money permit. Pardon the simplicity of my question but I figured you guys would tell me if this is something I can do or would farg it up. Is...

What do I really need to reload ammo

Do you want to reload volume for plinking with pistols or AR's or do you want to reload high quality low volume match ammo? That is the real question. If you want quantity over quality then by all means a progressive is the way to go. I have a Hornady LnL for pistol and 5.56 plinking ammo...

Another Michigan shooter here. Welcome. In no way will the 300 Blackout be a candidate for anything beyond 200 yards. It's a ballistic turd and only good for shooting suppressed out of an AR or for hunting at short ranges. After 200 it drops like a stone. The .308 is a good overall...
