Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I built a 33XC barrel for my SRS a little over a year ago and have shot it quite a lot. Yes, it will eject a live round no problem. The 33XC won't mag feed which for me isn't a problem. I tend to single feed most of the time anyway. The 33XC is long enough and big enough that it single feeds...

    375 Cheytac flattening Fed 215s

I think the "rumor" started because Hodgdon announced that they were discontinuing the powder about a year or so ago. As far as I know its no longer available. If it is I'd like to know too.....lots of things that would use it instead of something else in the shop. Can't get any IMR 5010...

    37XC build

After reading their website info it looks like their brass is hammer forged and turned on CNC. Time will tell if its any better I suppose. Frank

    37XC build

How long have these guys been around, I never heard of RCC before. Their prices are up there but they're doing a lot of oddball stuff no one else is. Is it worth $5 a case though? I've been running the petersen 33XC cases in my XC and so far have had no issues at all despite running a little...

    375 Cheytac flattening Fed 215s

I wasn't recommending the RL33 for the 375, just noting that it works well in my 338 Lapua mag where the H1000 was less than useful. I figure if the H1000 won't do in the 338 than it won't work in the 375 for sure. I think RL50 is the best next step for the 375. I'd really say go for the H50BMG...

    375 Cheytac flattening Fed 215s

After building a pretty good bunch of barrels for the DT's I can tell you that the reamer makes a huge difference. I have friends with a wide variety of reamers for the 300 win mag and they all have different throat configurations. Some were done to use special bullets or different weights and...

    375 Cheytac flattening Fed 215s

I think I'm running about 103gr of RL33 in my Lapua mag with 250gr matchkings. This same rifle wouldn't run 88gr of H1000 with the 250s and velocity was about 150 fps or more slower. My 33XC is running 122gr of RL 33 and I'm getting ready to go to the RL50 as a test. Going by my friends 375...

    375 Cheytac flattening Fed 215s

Like the others I'm thinking H1000 is the problem. I've not been able to get it working in my 338 Lapua so I sure wouldn't run it in the 375. Friends are running H50BMG, WC872 or RL50 as they are much more suited to the bigger cartridge and longer barrels. Frank

    Ssg 82 5.45x39

I know this one is pretty old but Hornady has started selling new brass cases, bullets and dies for the 5.45X39. Finally got mine and started working up a load for the SSG82. Need to get to the range and see how accuracy is. Frank

I have a good friend shooting the 375 CT in his HTI. He managed a hit at 2 miles last june in South Dakota. Many repeatable hits at 2700 to 3000 yds too. I built the barrel he was shooting out there from a Bartlein blank. Its about 36" to gain a bit more velocity. Its much better than the...

I've shortened a few barrels for customers and other than having the flutes run all the way to shoulder its fine. Looks odd but who really cares. The flutes have no effect on the cutting of the shoulder. Its still square and true.....as long as you machine it that way. Frank

I bought an SRS when there was no covert back in 2010 or so. Got tired of adding extensions to my short barrels and finally got a covert handguard for it. Have never looked back. The long handguard gains you nothing unless you need the length for a rail mounted starlight or thermal. I've been...

    Muzzle brake/Caliber Question

The difference in bullet diameters is minimal and the gain from having a brake set up just for your bore diameter will be so microscopic that you'd be crazy to fool with it. Have a look at spark photos of the gas exiting the muzzle in a high power rifle and you'll see that even with a much...

Suppressors Form 1 suppressor model number changed by ATF...

Marking requirements are the same for all NFA items. Manufacturer Name, City, State, model, cal, serial number. Minimum depth of .003" and letter/number size of .0625" height. On a suppressor the info should be marked on the tube unless the endcaps are permanently attached. Frank

    Big bore sub

The 12.7 X 48 and 510 whisper are both based off the 338 Lapua brass rather than any of the WSM stuff. I know guys who have tried the WSM and RUM brass and it works ok but quality of the cases is less than steller with only rem and win making brass. Its really nice to have quality cases to start...

One more little detail I keep meaning to mention and forget is that guys want cerakoted barrels and neglect to consider that it will affect the clamp up on the barrel. If you're getting your barrels painted you should mask off the section that is clamped in the receiver. I have had to sand off a...

Why would the barrel rotate when you close the bolt? Are you putting Gen 2 barrel extensions in a gen 1 rifle? My gen 1 barrels have no slop and neither do the gen 2's. The only time I can get any slop is with the gen 2 extensions in the gen 1 rifle. I've had a pretty good number of barrels in...

I've never seen DT spec blanks for sale but maybe someone does have them. I buy straight cylindrical blanks of 1.275" diameter or larger so that I can turn the down to exactly 1.25 for the clamping surface. I don't trust most of the center turned blanks to be within the spec of the necessary...

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

As far as I know the blanks DT has used to make their barrels have always been button rifled. Cut rifling can't compete for production anymore with prices being much higher due to the labor. On the other hand button rifled barrels have come a long way from WWII and are competing with the best...

I think its just Nick. If the MDR didn't eject the last round its probably sitting in the ejection chute and the bolt locked back. It won't eject til you let the bolt go forward. There is a lug on the side of the bolt that pushes it out the door. Frank
