Baddest military action - based target/sniper rifle

During WW2 the Russians issued self-loading rifles to their Naval regiments because sailors were accustomed to using and maintaining machinery and bolt actions to pretty much everyone else.

    New Weaver T10 scope

They were a highly rated scope in their day BUT these days you would only buy one for a retro shoot or to mount on a classic varmint/target rifle of the 1960s or 1970s. They are quite finicky to set up, you definitely have to read the instructions and record your settings in a notebook. More of...

    New Weaver T10 scope

Looks like a KT10, as opposed to the T10. I had a KT10 years ago. Easier to use BUT not the holy grail.

Anybody still shoot Anschutz? Help me get a feel for what this is worth today.

Biggest issue for a would be purchaser would possibly be the mainspring. Both the firing pin and mainspring for the Match 54 actions had changed by the 1980s. I found that out when I owned and shot a Match 54 Prone Rifle made in the 1960s.

Baddest military action - based target/sniper rifle

Fair enough. I have a copy of the later version of Black Rifle. You forgot to mention the receiver corrosion.

Baddest military action - based target/sniper rifle

8 We had our own version of communist sabotage in NZ. An ammotech had the idea of using the .220 Swift to take out terrorists. A now deceased friend of mine built the rifles, including the prototype which worked very nicely at Trentham Camp, presumably on Somerville Range. They placed a...

Baddest military action - based target/sniper rifle

Blame Robert McNamara. He was the former logistics officer who introduced the Ford Motor Company system that effectively eliminated the competent, experienced, specialist military officer throughout the DOD. That particular initiative has probably killed far more US soldiers, sailors and...

    Assist in identifying mauser action

You could rebarrel for 7x57 and do your own loading. Mild loads will do for bush/scrub hunting. It is only when you load for 500-1,000 yard ballistics that you get into the higher pressures. If you want to load for long range, get a decent 98 action.

    Finland M39 Mosins

It is my understanding that some of those rifles were fitted with barrels having a groove diameter of .308” or thereabouts (those barrels being purchased from SIG). I suggest that you check the standard reference works, i.e. buy a book.

    Finland M39 Mosins

Fair enough. Past midnight here and I couldn’t be bothered looking too closely OR checking my CZUB publication. The process of producing those rifles was apparently a bit of a nightmare, due to gross discrepancies in Mosin receiver specs. They would have been far happier making the ZG 51 sniper...

    Range noise suppression

I suggest that you draw up your own Range Safety Template. The way that I was taught to do a Range Safety Template is: 1. Draw your centreline, preferably on tracing film. 2. Determine your cone of fire and draw a diverging line (to the appropriate angle) on each side of the centreline, starting...

Need old wildcat help- Vintage Varmint Sniper rifle related

@sirhrmechanic Yes, you are wrong, this time. :) Dunlap (Gunsmithing) and every rifle loading manual in my possession show the Savage shoulder angle at 26 degrees 30 minutes; and the .22-250 shoulder angle at 28 degrees.

Need old wildcat help- Vintage Varmint Sniper rifle related

Gebby changed the shoulder angle to 28 degrees, in order to trademark his version. If a rifle is marked 22-.250-3000, it is probable that it has the original .250 Savage shoulder angle. A chamber cast would be a good idea if you do not have any fired cases to examine.

    Aperture sights for T1X

You can fit one of the NECG peep sights for the CZ527 and earlier equivalent Brno rifles to your Tikka receiver, by the simple expedient of getting your gunsmith to mill out a notch on the left side of the rail. You could also fit an NECG peep sight made for a Weaver base (or any other peep...

    Anschutz 1411 Match 54

Contessa, in Italy, make a Picatinny rail especially for the Anschutz Match 54 receiver and it is available as a flat or angled rail. If memory serves correctly, they have 10 and 20 degree options. I have never used Contessa products but they have an excellent reputation and the UK agent is...
