I lusted for The Fix rifle; I just do not want the caliber I got.

🧐 A twat is useful. 🙂 I would not use this guy as a pull- through, unless … I had a sewer pipe to clean.

    A story

Is this @BillyNg OR is it the ghost of Billy Ng, typing via a spiritual medium after his wife murdered him in a moment of righteous rage? 🙂

Barrel Lining a Vintage Rifle in the Day....

Thanks for the stir-up. 🙂 Ryan Szymanski and his colleagues appear to be doing a magnificent job with the resources that they have, including all the YouTube content they produce.

    22lr twist rate advantages

Thanks. I will have to take a closer look.

    22lr twist rate advantages

One thing to remember is that: higher rotational velocity causes greater friction with the atmosphere and therefore greater drag on the projectile. Forward velocity of the projectile will decrease at a greater rate than with proven standard rifling for the chambering in question. Winchester...

Bergara never fails to impress me

The standard rule when I started shooting in 1984 was and still is: shoot 50 rounds of your cheapest ammo into the bank at short range before checking a new .22 lr rifle for accuracy. That is for a sporter. You are getting closer to 500 rounds before settling on the best ammo for a target rifle...

Are we better off in an age of microchips... Or not?

It is my understanding that Navez, another Belgian artillery officer, patented the first practical chronograph but it had the disadvantage that you had to take the readings and interpret them by going to a table; whereas Boulenge improved the indicator part of the system. Great work by both men...

    A Sobering FACT !

First rifle I shot (1984) was an SLR L1A1 with taxpayer ammo; second was a Voere 1014 .22 lr semi; third rifle was a .22 target rifle at a local small bore club (started by a WW2 Bren gunner who gave me a solid foundation for proper shooting). I started buying suitable .22lr ammo in 500 and...

    Green Meanie L96A1

Forgotten Weapons latest video is a review of Steve Houghton’s new book, concentrating on the L96A1 rifle. What I saw in the video looks just as good as the earlier book. I have already sent an email to Steve and am waiting for the invoice to turn up in my inbox.

    Camouflaged 1903

@cplnorton Thank you. Great info. I believe that the German optics maker you are talking about was CP Goertz, reputedly the largest optics maker in the world at the start of WW1. I understand that they suffered badly post war and that in the 1930s had been reduced to one facility in or near...

    Camouflaged 1903

I have read that Herbert McBride jammed a razor blade in the mount and pissed on it to rust the whole thing together. Have yet to acquire his book.

    Vintage oil

Sperm oil was used in Hudson’s Cleaner, a powder solvent and firearm oil mentioned in Hatcher’s Notebook, 3rd Ed., p. 345. I reckon that you would need a lot more however, if you wanted to make up the 1/2 (US) gallon formula listed on that page. 🙂 Good find.

SURELY - my new PCP air rifle

Nice rifle and shooting results. I like the muzzle brake. Are you a Lahti fan?

Gunsmithing New bubba gunsmithing project? UPDATE

Apply masking tape in several overlapping layers and then grind the pad. Man up! 🙂 Reads like a clear plan and good progress, to date.

    .22 Snap Caps

Too true. Just as the best way to collimate a sighting telescope to a rifle barrel is to look through the barrel.

Scope mount for a Finnish Lion small bore target rifle

Grunig and Elmiger make sight bases with pin attachment at the back and several magnets forward, to keep those bases attached to Stgw 57, PE 57 and their bolt action rimfire/centrefire target rifles. I reckon that you could put together a similar setup. Go to ‘Bloke on the Range’ on YouTube to...

Question on status of museum ship guns

You could go to the Battleship New Jersey website and ask them. They are heavily into producing and posting (very good)YouTube videos at the moment, in order to keep (financially) afloat. Their curator, Ryan Szymanski, would be able to answer your question.

    Sako S20

Nice result. In regard to weight, if you read a bicycle catalogue they show the weight for the smallest frame size in that model; if you read a rifle catalogue they show the weight for the version with the biggest hole down the barrel and complementary lightened stock, i.e. the wooden stock with...

First time out with a B14r

They might have set up the helper for Lapua ammo which has a a slightly smaller rim diameter than most .22lr ammo. I discovered that when I had extraction issues with an original Browning T Bolt. Either that or a slightly out of tolerance helper.
