Lever action Marlin questions - 44 mag and 45-70

If you have any inkling to reload, the 45-70 is a very flexible rifle that can be loaded from mild to wild. Loading lead bullets, it is also very inexpensive to reload for. I have both a Marlin 1894C in .357 and a Marlin 1895 in 45-70. Both are a hoot to shoot. The 1895 I shoot only on paper...

K-Bars What Knife is in your pocket right now?

It's unfortunate that some folks have had poor CS experience with Benchmade. Have to say I was pleased with the Benchmade folks. Went out to Oregon a few years ago on vacation, and had to stop by Benchmade's HQ. After looking around, I asked if I could drop my mini-grip off for a "tune up"...

K-Bars What Knife is in your pocket right now?

Oh, forgot I just picked up an Opinel No. 8 Carbon as an alternative (and slightly longer) apple cutter at work. Began working on the patina yesterday with an apple. Crazy sharp and thin blade! p.s. glad to see many of the blades shown here look like they've actually been used too! Too many...

K-Bars What Knife is in your pocket right now?

Nothing fancy here. Benchmade Mini Griptillian I've carried for at least 15 years. Also rotate in a Spyderco Delica, Drgonfly and Benchmade CLA. Have a Great Eastern Cutlery 71 in my briefcase for apple cutting duty in 1095 steel. Grail EDC would be a Reeves Small LH Sebenza. Maybe one day.

How long to leave bore cleaner in barrel?

I've left Wipeout in my Rem 700 overnight with no ill effects. Works great as an aside!

Ring on 123 ELD-M after seating

Bobke, no I'm not at a compressed charge. I'm actually closer to a starting load than max load per the OCW testing I did. It must be because of the bullet profile of the ELD-M (as compared to the dozens and dozens of other bullets out there). Must be difficult to make seating stems that work...

Ring on 123 ELD-M after seating

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at it tonight to see where it's hitting. I can't imagine it would harm accuracy, but it is just annoying to look at.

Ring on 123 ELD-M after seating

I am working up loads for my new 6.5CM Rem 700 ADL Varmint (26" HB, Bravo Stock, TT trigger, Vortex optics). One odd thing I've noticed is that when I seat the 123 gr. Hornady ELD-M bullets, after seating there is a light ring around the circumference of the bullet about 1/3 of the way down...

Feeling the need for a 6.5 Creed...moor. Recommendations please.

RangerBob, the B&C Medalist is a nice stock. As you mentioned, it does have an aluminum bedding structure. I had one on a Rem 700 a few years ago and it was totally satisfactory. Horses for courses... Enjoy!

    Rebarrel or Rechamber?

Same advice as the others. Verify that screws for rail, rings and action screws are torqued to proper values. A little blue Loctite doesn't hurt either. Give the barrel a good scrubbing with cleaner of your choice that will remove the copper. Use a good rest to stabilize the rifle when...

Feeling the need for a 6.5 Creed...moor. Recommendations please.

I recently did what the OP suggested. I purchased a 26" Rem 700 ADL Varmint in 6.5CM from Cabela's for $450 on sale. Remington had a $75 rebate which brought it down to $375. Had some Cabela bucks on my card which brought it down to just south of $200. Can't buy an action alone for that...
