    If he wants the 300 get him a 300. It is EASY to load a 300 mag to 30/06 levels if it kicks too much. Do you know any handloaders? A nice thick limbsaver pad will help also.

    The 308 has one big advantage over the others, it can stop a vehicle much better than the others your looking at. I have a rich uncle that is buying more 308 rifles for his troops also, so ammo might be easier to find in a "troubled time".

    naw, 308. 18" barrel and 1-10 twist. To get the full advantage for the 6.5 you'll need a pretty long barrel. That equals weight.
