    columbia river arms

They're now back at Black Hole Weaponry: https://blackholeweaponry.com/ They were BHW, then switched to Columbia River Arms, now back to BHW. Seems like mostly just re-branding and website moves during that time. I know I've bought barrels from them all through that, and they've all been great.

    Savage Impulse 1 year update

Can't speak for shoots100, but I have a 5 round MDT mag. It's been flawless. Their 10 rounders are great too. Much shorter than the 10 round Accurate mag the rifle comes with. Get the all metal ones, not the polymer or hybrid.

    Tracking deer with no blood

I would expect more blood as well. The arrow looks more like a low brisket shot. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, our brains don't always work right. On more than one occasion, I've found my animals with arrows or holes not exactly where I expected.

    Tracking deer with no blood

Were you shooting from a tree stand, or on the same level as the deer? How far was the shot? There's not a ton of space between the top of the lungs and the spine on whitetailed deer, meaning if you shot too high to completely miss lungs, you'd about have to hit the spine. Clearly you didn't...

Photos What kind of animal leaves this print?

If that's a raccoon, then he lost a digit on more than one paw somewhere... I suspect the size difference is just due to the softness of the mud. That's a fox, coyote, or small dog.

Tough to follow that ^^^ with a measly triple, but here it is. Side note: the 50 and 53 v-max are pretty impressive out of the lowly 223. There's a lot more that go straight down than do the spin-dance.

    22 ARC

^^^ They're comparing standard factory options for both. Also, they're trying to get people to understand that "Performance" is much more than just muzzle velocity. In this case, they're saying that their 62 grain super bullet surpasses a standard factory 22-250 bullet in down-range velocity...

    Savage Impulse 1 year update

Other than the bolt handle and head, I couldn't figure out how to get the bolt apart, and both the Internet and Savage support have not been helpful. So I flushed it out as best I could with Hornady OneShot gun cleaner and compressed air. Near as I could tell with my calipers, firing pin...

Night Vision Scanning / spotting with a thermal scope?

Can you elaborate on the "why" here? Is it just a field of view thing? Thing is, I may be able to get a 1 year old SY35 for slightly more than a new Phenom 640. They're both 2x, and while I can see that the Phenom has a wider FOV and I assume the ergonomics are a little nicer, it's limited...

If I had an A2, I'd be on this like stink on a monkey. Sadly, I'm a lefty, and stuck with the A1...

    22 ARC

Hornady just flat out gets it. Those VT bullets are what I've been wishing for -- a heavier, higher BC varmint bullet. I really want one of these 22s, but I already have too many coyote rifles, including a 6 Grendel that I really enjoy.

Got my first thermal kill on my second set. About 50 yards. 50gr v-max .223.

    Savage Impulse 1 year update

Anyone get light primer strikes from their impulse? Mine has 516 rounds on it now, and it started having misfires, as in "click... nothing". In some cases, I could run that same cartridge again and it would fire the second try. In other cases, it would not. I pulled apart the ones that would...

Night Vision Scanning / spotting with a thermal scope?

Thanks for the responses guys. Sounds like some people do this, so I feel less dumb. I'd be looking for one with a lower base mag / wider FOV. Maybe 2x like the Super Yoter 35mm. From what I've seen, they can be had at roughly the same price as a decent 640 handheld. The terrain I hunt is...

Night Vision Scanning / spotting with a thermal scope?

Who has a thermal scope that they use as a handheld scanner? I have a Bering Super Yoter 50 on my rifle that I really like. While not really designed as a scanner, it seems compact enough to be handy. Would it be dumb to just buy a second one and use it as a scanner? Pros: - Familiar...

    Savage Impulse 1 year update

I could care less about "likes" or subscribers, but for those interested, I did a number of videos on the Impulse, including a seven-part series on re-barreling using the quick change kit from @shoots100. Savage Impulse Playlist

    DTA Covert Mystery

+1. I've noticed this phenomenon before with certain combos of rifle, load, and can. Although in my case, the first round is usually high.
