    Warner Swasey site

I'm curious how much this scope sold for. I have a original rifle and keep on saying I'm going to go out and shoot it. But I sort of always forget to. I think everyone knows about the suction cup problem they had with them sticking to peoples faces and they had to drill a hole in eye cup...

1903a4 mounted in M70 stock donovan

I knew I had heard that name before. Nice catch. :) Yeah I do not think this was done as a sniper rifle. I have the counts of those rifles and even before the war started they did not want a 30:06 Sniper rifle. They wanted a 7.62 as they were required to switch because of Nato. So only...

1903a4 mounted in M70 stock donovan

I have heard that name but I cannot place where I have heard it. I am almost thinking that was a commercial gunsmith's name. Maybe the guy who built the rifle are my thoughts. The double gun forum are some of the most knowledgeable when it comes to custom gunsmiths. I might post over there...

    Scoped model 1917 rifles

Personally I don't think that 1917 at the SA museum is Marine. I've seen it and it reminds me of the testing the Army did with the Mann Niedner bases. I have several sniper test reports from 1918 to 1923 that detail the Army's testing them. As I said earlier I think the biggest mistake...

    Scoped model 1917 rifles

Anything done to any of the rifles past the US, I'm honestly clueless. I study that 1900 to about 1973 for the Marines and Army and that is about it. So anything foreign I bow down to the real experts. Because I know very little of that. Pmclaine, I actually went to the archives and found...

    Scoped model 1917 rifles

This style of rifles I'm sorry to say would be something that was never used by the military. Both on the USMC Unertl and also the A5. To tell a little background, the A5 was pretty much considered obsolete even before WWI. The Army actually had wanted a Goertz German Scope as their sniper...

    1903A1 National Match rifle

Where all the authors have got confused is "Special Target" actually was used for about 6 or 7 different models of rifles sold thru the DCM. It was used in every title of the different models they sold. Otherwise for instance, special target national Match, or Special Target heavy barrel...

    Unertl style scope

That is really interesting. They reverted the Mann Niedner mount back to the standard dovetail with thumbscrew. I've never seen that before.

    Winchester A5 scope

I put up a video on how to repair the crosshairs on an A5 scope. There are two videos.

    Winchester M70

These are crappy pics but at least show the weight. First is LtCol Chandlers Model 70 with a 8X USMC Unertl. This is the weight. The serial is 18 digits off Ryan's Model 70 with the USMC Cash Sales slip. Second is the only documented Marine team rifle known to exist. It was a USMC...

Advice on restoring moldy Springfield 1903?

Mold is super easy to get off Wood. Just a rag and BLO. It won't hurt it either and it will most likely come out looking like new. Do not do anything more abrasive than this. You shouldn't have to.

    Reproduction 8x USMC scope

While appearance wise they are not very close to a real USMC Unertl scope, the glass on them is actually much better. I was really surprised the first time I looked thru one as they are much more clear than the real ones.

    Winchester Model 54

I apologize. I do not know the model 54 at all. I really only study the model 70 with the association as a Marine Sniper rifle. If this was mine, there is the Winchester Collector's forum or the Double gun Forum. Both of those forums are full of very heavy Commercial Winchester Collector's...

    Winchester A5 scope

I wonder if you could use the repo A5 scopes for parts? That way you are not trying to find loose parts for A5 scopes which are about hens teeth anymore.

Woohoo! I found my WW2 Garand (I think) lol

Well it depends on what you mean by original. If you mean by serial number it is an original WWII era receiver, then yes. Now do you mean it is original as manufactured? Then no. It has had things changed. Which 99% of them have been thru at least one rebuild. So for instance on this one...

    Winchester 70 Heavy Barrel

Have you tore it apart to see the barrel date and maker? If WRA it's a late one as the front block isn't a dovetail. To me the barrel almost looks fatter than the normal profiles I see, but that might be the pics. Honestly it's basically impossible to prove a Marine Model 70. There is...

The M73 Lyman Alaskan Scope from WWII, which became the M81 for the M1C Garand Sniper

I actually encountered something that I had never seen before, so I thought if I hadn't seen one others might find this interesting as well. This is the backstory: In early 1943, the Lyman Alaskan scope was actually the front runner to be used on...

The M73 Lyman Alaskan Scope from WWII, which became the M81 for the M1C Garand Sniper

lonegunman762x51, I sent you a pm. By the way Dave, I'm jealous of that 3.25 M1C! I got my M1C long before I went thru the M1C docs at the Archives or otherwise I would have been specifically looking for a 3.25. To me now after reading the docs they are the most fascinating M1C serial range.

The M73 Lyman Alaskan Scope from WWII, which became the M81 for the M1C Garand Sniper

Dave, It does look like 515. But I can't tell after that bc it'sunder the ring. The screws on the rings are staked so no real way to find out the last digit. Which stinks.

The M73 Lyman Alaskan Scope from WWII, which became the M81 for the M1C Garand Sniper

Random Guy, I actually have the Ordnance docs from this order. If I run across them again I will come back and post them. *Actually found one. I know I have more of this order, but here is at least one. I didn't spend a lot of time putting together the story, but I'm not sure I agree with...
