    Hunting & Fishing Deer hunting with a 20" .308?

Re: Deer hunting with a 20" .308? A decision to cut to 20" will have zero affect on terminal ballistics unless it is cutting into the minimal velocity threshold for expansion.

    aguila Super sub sonic sucks

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks If I was getting 1/2" at 75yards with inexpensive ammo I would not even spend my money buying anything else. I would buy a truckload of it and be done.

Any reason not to use Weaver base/rings?

Re: Any reason not to use Weaver base/rings? I hear you on spending big bucks on bases. I have gone with the DNZ stuff on almost everything, they have not needed any lapping yet and have held up to some pretty heavy abuse on my centerfires. They have a 30 and 20moa set that would work for you...

Rifle Scopes DNZ Game Reaper mounts

Re: DNZ Game Reaper mounts DNZ mounts are good to go and I would have no issue using them on a tactical rifle unless switching optics was a need. I use the 20moa on a 700 and its solid, the way I look at it the fewer moving parts the better. Unless there was an issue with it fitting the...

Tiny rant on Marlin customer service

Re: Tiny rant on Marlin customer service Thanks for the info Ben, did not even think of Midway as carrying the part.

Tiny rant on Marlin customer service

Re: Tiny rant on Marlin customer service Well Ruger rebuilt a PC4 carbine for free and paid shipping both ways after it ate a couple thousand rounds and was not 100% reliable anymore. They also sent me parts for a Bisley .45LC after the timing was slightly off and starting to shave lead...

Tiny rant on Marlin customer service

Re: Tiny rant on Marlin customer service Thanks for the opinions guys, I guess I have been spoiled by companies like Ruger that will make it right when something breaks under normal wear and tear. I guess I would like to think that a couple hundred rounds of plinking would not be seen as...

Tiny rant on Marlin customer service

Re: Tiny rant on Marlin customer service KS, for clarity I did not screw up and damage the rifle trying to futz with it, I am more than happy to pay for my errors. The part is plastic and extremely thin and probably cost them well under a dollar each. The part was broken within a few months...

Tiny rant on Marlin customer service

Ok, maybe its more of a checking in to see if my irritation is warranted. My Xt-22 is shooting extremely well, turning in great accuracy and meeting my needs for a basic .22 bolt gun. Yesterday I started to have really rough bolt manipulation when striping a round out of the magazine along with...

    Gunsmithing Palma Barrel Weights

Re: Palma Barrel Weights Weight is an issue but balance is an even bigger issue in my humble opinion. I went with a heavy palma for a match rifle and feeling an almost identical set up but with a medium palma was a huge difference. I dont go heavier than a medium now on any of my builds.

    Gunsmithing Tapped pillar?

Re: Tapped pillar? Darrel Holland has been making his threaded pillars for years and they work well. As Clark mentioned the nice thing is that the bottom metal is independent of the action. They are definitly different but with so many other variables I cannot imagine you could complete a...

    Fieldcraft Tomahawks

Re: Tomahawks I grabbed a cold steel trench hawk off of a prize table and was pleasantly suprised. The grind was pretty clean and reasonably sharp out of the packaging. I am not a big fan of the spike on the back, I think a flat strike face would be more versatile but overall it has wormed...

    Gunsmithing dyna-bore coat???

Re: dyna-bore coat??? I have done most of my long guns. I recently moved from hawaii and saw stainless guns rusting due to the high humidity and salt air. Not a single spec of rust in any of the blued or stainless barrels treated with the stuff. My .243 went over 800 rounds between cleanings...

917 Bolt Before & After (pics)

Re: 917 Bolt Before & After (pics) Do it yourself guys, grab a PTG knob for $6 or the anderson knob (also from PTG) for $12, spend another $6 for a die and some epoxy and your dont in about an hour. After the epoxy cures to fill any gaps sand it down to blend, hit it with some krylon and your...

    New toy is kicking azz

Re: New toy is kicking azz Up and running my shop after the move to Montana and will have my lathe in next month but I dont think I will be touching the crown. Yesterday it was properly broken in on some local squirrels and the 38gr Winchester subsonic was tearing some big holes on the exits...

    .22 Bolt gun

Re: .22 Bolt gun My recent experience with a Marlin Xt-22 was great. Tough to beat for $167 and even though I played with a bunch of stuff it could easily be shot out of the box for 99% of its owners with no problems. I will be buying a few more for my kids.

    Gunsmithing Tight Tikka Base Screws

Re: Tight Tikka Base Screws +1 on factory loctite, also a soldering iron on the screw head will heat it nicely and makes it easy to remove.
