    22lr barrel

Cleaning - I use Vudoo's method: Clean the chamber thoroughly, barely touch the bore so that lube "seasoning" remains. Leaving "seasoning" in barrel seems beneficial even when changing from one lube type to another, such as Lapua's super-greasy stuff to Eley's stiffer beeswax or paraffin.

SSSooooo. Next question is, watchagonnadu wrt an optic for the new rifle??? :ROFLMAO: Whole 'nother cannawurms.

    What am I doing wrong?

Apologies if my tone came across as snobbish... While the 75gr Hornady Frontier is vastly better than ubiquitous 55/62gr ball, it's just not true match grade. But, with your low-powered optic, your rifle is very likely unable to take advantage of top-tier ammo at distance even if the rifle is...

First precision 22 - go big or go home?

Here's a "thing:" no matter what you start with, if you keep shooting you'll get an irresistible itch to buy/build something else. That's why I started rimfire competition with a CZ-455 "Tacticool," put it in a chassis, sold it after upgrading to a Vudoo. Then got a wild hair about building a...

    What am I doing wrong?

Bottom line is, imo you've run into the practical limit of your platform and ammo - notably the optic, followed by the ammo - and that's assuming a high-quality AR platform tuned to the ammo. Optic is max 10x? At 500 yards? Pfft. Be very happy with 7-8" groups, if you can do it consistently...

First precision 22 - go big or go home?

A few thoughts. I enjoy centerfire PRS-style matches, but I've come to enjoy .22 matches even more. First, what @obx22 said about positional practice is very true. I've seen so many guys sit at a bench trying to hit tiny targets or make tiny groups, then they enter a competition, the timer goes...

Round count to determine the best lot# ?

My new lot of Long Range is superb. I got out today to test my new half-case of Lapua Long Range. It was a cold (40s F.), pretty raw day with 2-5mph wind from 2 o'clock; I got initial 50-yard and 100-yard confirmation done and then moved to the 550 range where I shot 200, 300, and 400 yard...

    Decisions, decisions

Broadly speaking, the optical difference between a "good" $750-1000 scope and $2500ish scopes will be most pronounced in poor lighting conditions. Example: One shooting lane at a popular NC match venue has a little berm up next to a tree line, maybe 800 yards across an open field. Steel plate...

Round count to determine the best lot# ?

When I had my Vudoo tested at Lapua/Capstone's Arizona center in 2020, 50-yard results of ten-round 50-yard groups of each tested lot (minimum of eight lots) were compared. Then 20 additional rounds of the best lots were fired and results compared. So call it 10 shots to eliminate and 30 shots...

Rifle Competition Events Guardian Cameo in August?

I've shot Guardians at two different ranges here in NC and have competed at another where a Guardian will be held this year. One was easily traversible with a cart, one you HAD to drive, and this year's event wil not be friendly to old or young trying to walk (unless they run the stages very...

    PRS bino choice for 2025

A few thoughts. The inter-pupilary distance can be a thing, for sure. I've always needed to have binocular barrels set as close together as possible. I've noticed that I have to position my eyes perfectly with a buddy's Swaro SLC 15x and my new Meopta MeoStar 15x bought during @gr8fuldoug 's...

22 LR weight feedback, does it helps or is a myth?

Interesting. What sorting criteria did you use - for example, rim thickness sorted into "slots" of .0420-.0425, .0426-.0430, .0431-.0435? I wonder if sorting is more effective for low-mid tiers of ammo as compared to higher tiers. Kinda like tuner testing... I found a tuner had much more...

Barrel questions about Tikka T3X TAC A1

Once again, I kinda went where you're thinking about going. TL;DR: Maybe consider trying long-range competition? I shot the mile a few times with a 6.5CM. It's a hoot, yes. It gave me an itch to build a 300 PRC. If I'm going to build a one-mile rifle, why bother with wimpy little sub-.30-cal...

Barrel questions about Tikka T3X TAC A1

My question would be, "Why do you want to make this change?" A TAC A1 is not something with which one would think of as a hunting rifle. If this rifle is a range toy or a potential entry-level competition rifle (I had one; was a fine choice for getting started), why'n'ell go with an expensive...

    Lapua/Alpha worth the premium?

^^^^ This. I did most of Diggler's testing steps on 20 Starline .223 cases. I also found "measurable" consistency to be top-shelf. Yes, the brass is thick, evidenced by AMP annealer's generated Aztec code - higher than cheaper brands like Hornady. The only thing I'll note is that my virgin...

    Kudos for MDT Field Stock

I'm surprised the Field Stock is lighter than the T1X factory stock. I bought a new T3X Varmint a few years ago; I brought it home, opened the box, and immediately transferred the barreled action to an MDT LSS-XL chassis. I just remember thinking, "Why in blazes doesn't put excellent barreled...

AMP code is consistent - new vs. old brass

    Alpha 6BR brass, AMP-generated codes- Virgin:155 / 8x loaded:154. I was curious. That is all.

    Kudos for MDT Field Stock

Yes - according to MDT's description. I honestly didn't pay attention... I had a spur-of-the-moment urge to swap stocks on the rifle and make a range trip late in the afternoon. I bolted the action into the stock (nice-looking fitment) and ran with it. I took it out for another quick session...

    Eye protection

I wore Decot glasses for skeet for decades. Yes, they are flat or nearly so and sit high on the bridge of the nose - because they're oriented to shotgun sports, where wide peripheral vision is especially important. Upside to Decot is those thin temples don't dig into ears under muffs. Downside...

    IPRF rimfire Factory Class gun

I see a "Factory" class in the rules - I assume this is what you mean by "production." Overall, it looks like IPRF is much like American PRS. It appears any version of the 457 would qualify for Factory. However - if you read much here on SH, you'll find a lot of opinion that "Production" class...
