44mag reload for Ruger 77/44, which bullet to use?

My 77/44 shoots the Nosler 240 JHP a little better than the Hornady 240 XTP. Since Indiana let us use pistol caliber rifles for deer a few years ago, the XTP has the best reputation for terminal performance, so I'd probably choose it. The 300 XTP does pretty well also. It's not a super...

    Sig 716 Pros/Cons

A friend has one. I haven't gone over it in detail, but think it's a very nice looking, well-made rifle. For downsides, his trigger is one if the worst AR-type triggers I've tried. Lots of catching and dragging in the travel. Still, it shoots really well if you can manage that. The other...

    .357 semi-wadcutter (soft not cast) in a 9mm?

Slug your bore if you haven't already. When I slugged my 9mms, most were .357-.358". What weight SWC? I am assuming 158. I'd think they would either give an overly long OAL or need to be seated so deep that powder space would be reduced more than I'd like. There are some 158 bullets out...

    Single stage press?

I have both (and others). I really like the Co-Ax. The only negative it has to the Rockchucker (for me) is when sizing MG-fired .308 brass that's hard to size. Sometimes the universal shellholder jaws will come off a case rim, leaving it stuck in the die. Sometimes I could run it up until...

    Anyone here cast lead?

It is kind of a pain to adjust a Star sizer, even if you record measurements, but the good thing is that time is gained back by how fast you can size. If I'm just sizing a few- like less than 50- I'll just use my Saeco. I have an old Lyman 45, the Saeco, and the Star, bought in that order...

    Bullet casters help

About the stickiness: When I tumble lube, after its as dry as its going to get, I put them back in a container, sprinkle a little powdered mica on them and give another shake. The mica coats them so I can handle them easier. Tumble lube moulds work fine if they cast in a diameter that...

    Ar15 cast bullet load

I tried some, when I was checking what would work if I really had to scrounge bullets someday. The only .22 mould I had was a Lyman 225415, which has been made in 50 and 55 grain forms over the years. Mine is a 55. Casting is full of things that "everybody knows", and one is that casting for...

    Fn Scar 17 reload questions

Most of the bullets through mine have been the PRVI 145 grain FMJ I've bought in bulk. Luckily, it seems to have a liking for them. I've shot bullets from 110-175 grains in it, and it shoots Sierra 168s best, but not enough better than the 145 FMJs to be worth using for most things. The 145s...

Is it just me, or is this not a smoking hot deal on a RCBS chargemaster?

I got mine from Midsouth at that price about a month ago. Anyone else I checked at the time either didn't have any in stock, or wanted well over $300. I ordered some other small things I needed like depriming pins and case trimmer shellholders to put the order over $300 for the rebate.

    Hornady "Suspend" List

.308 150 FMJ and 150 BTSP? 9mm 115 XTP? .30-30 150 RN and 170 FP? Yeah, all that unpopular stuff that never sells.

RL 15 where are you ???

Yeah I could use some. I've managed to scrounge up just about everything else.

Thanks everyone, and sorry it took me six years to post an intro. Or anything else.

Lots of blemished bullets and brass in-stock

My order of some of the "Nosler Accubond 165 Grain Bonded Spitzer Boat Tail" bullets came today. They have red tips and cannelures as some reported. They appear to be the Hornady Interbond bullet used in this LE TAP load: Hornadyle.com - 165 gr. INTERBOND® TAP® BARRIER? Trajectory info at the...

    stock stiffener

Same here. My Savage stock was floppy as a noodle, so I built the forend up with resin, Fiberglas mat, and Fiberglas rod (driveway marker) after routing it out. The forend itself is pretty solid now, but that just means the forend moves separate from the rest of it. It flexes at the point...

    Fieldcraft Taped muzzle

This topic came up at the range one day. Everybody had an opinion on whether to do it, what to use, how to apply it, etc. Everybody also had an opinion in what the tape did to POI, but it became clear none had actually checked it. So I had to find out. I had black plastic electrical tape...

    Checking In

I was surprised to see that the post I made earlier today was my first, so I thought I should do this. I used to shoot Highpower until my back told me to quit. With Highpower shooters, there is always some crossover interest into the sniper/long range shooting areas. I was kinda forced...

    Silver Sharpie

I keep a black one and a silver one in my pocket all the time anymore. I think it's just about the ideal balance of "stays on" and "I can get it off if I need to". I do use the silver more than black. They are a lot handier (and I feel better about buying) than red nail polish for marking...

    Military brass reloading

I'm going to have to disagree with any blanket statements on the thickness of military brass. In my early Highpower days, I weighed samples of all the headstamps of .308 I had. This was time consuming with the beam balance scale I had at the time. While most of the military brass was heavier...
