    M1A Build

If you can get the Sadlak airborne for $250, that would be a good deal. $225 would be great.

    M1A Build

M1a sniper I would try to keep the barrel free-floated, with no pressure asserted by a rail. As previously mentioned Sadlak and Smith are two of the same, the highest quality presently on the market. The ARMS #18 is less expensive and many find it also to be a good mount. Many also praise...

Anything Honduran, dark leaf. Had to give them up after the heart attack. Just have to drink my IPA w/o them.

I am pretty sure I already know the answer to this question.....

I believe some Widefields were used.

The "Rules" at the Hide (to aid n00bz)

Thanks for the morning laugh. I have met more "experts" in the weapons' field. Many call themselves "operators".

    Firearms Appraisal Suggestions

GunBroker gives you real-time value (the current market). Pictures can show you the condition (not always correctly stated). BlueBook has some good historical info, but I stopped referencing them for values back in the '90s.

    "Vintage" rangefinding?

All of the afore mentioned techniques are effective. Practice, practice, practice. When the wife and I go for walks after work (around the neighborhood), I take along a laser-rangefinder. We stop, I estimate a range to object, then laser it. It keeps me in practice w/o firing a shot.

What would you vintage folks do to this vintage caliber 1984 R700?

Steel: get rid of the aluminum rings and bases. Replace with steel 1-piece base and steel rings. If you have the money, buy a Colorado Redfield scope. Handloads: start with 40.5 gr. of IMR 4895 w/ 168 HPBT.

    cold Steel

IMHO Cold Steel makes/made the best production knives/swords for the money. I've used/carried them since the 80's. Presently, my pocket knife is the AK-47. I carried a Randal while in the service, but that was before Cold Steel. That was my one technical flaw with the movie Platoon: there was...

    Houston, TX

Taking advice from someone who lives in Kansas is fool hardy at best. I left the Houston area 20 years ago because the government started shutting down vehicle access to the National Forest (the tax-payers land). Now I can drive 30 minutes in any direction and shoot 1000 yrds. But because...

Rifle Scopes M-14 scope mount w/Weaver rails?

Looking for a high-end (no aluminum) scope mount with Weaver rails. Heard Smith Enterprises made some originally, but never seen one. Does anyone have any experience with McCann mounts? Have a Leatherwood MPC scope on a Weaver base which will not match the slots of the picatinny.

Who is the most historically significant SNIPER?

What about the guy on "the grassy knoll"? He got his shot in, and got away unidentified. Wasn't the shovel comment in the movie "Shooter"?

    Springfield 1903A1 without a scope...

As mentioned, the serial number puts your rifle in 1918. Being rebuilt in 1930 may make the barrel NM; check the muzzle crown at 6 o'clock for a sunburst/turtle looking stamp. The scant stock didn't come around till WWII. These were used quite a bit on 03-A4s, thus there were no cartouches...

Model 70 Here is my pre-64 National Match M70 in .30-06; marked "U.S. Property". Sold thru the CMP. The scope is a Lyman 20x Super Target marked "USMC Property". Have another M70 manufactured in1956, but is not US marked.

    Rifle Scopes EXPENSIVE SCOPES!!!!!

Re: EXPENSIVE SCOPES!!!!! I would recommend an old (made in CO) Redfield 3x9 Accu-Trac. I have put them next to a S&B (10 times the cost) and found the difference negligible, and just as rugged.
