Range Report The Wind and My Sore Thumb

Re: The Wind and My Sore Thumb Interesting you didn't mention mirage. Mirage is your friend and can show you a lot of what the wind is doing. Do you use a spotting scope focused at about halfway to your target? Are you paying attention to the wind conditions closest to your shooting...

Higher end bullets for 30cal (30-06)

Re: Higher end bullets for 30cal (30-06) You didn't say what twist rate your barrel is. If 1:12, go with the Berger 175 LRBT, if 1:10, go with the Berger 185 LRBT. No hybrids or VLD's. Seat them .010-.020 off the lands and go kick some butt. Forget the rest.

    Dillon press thoughts

Re: Dillon press thoughts I have used a 550 for 10 years for two calibers. 40 S&W and 45 ACP. If I was still loading high volumes for USPSA/IDPA and considering a second machine, it would be a 550.

    Rifling Marks??

Re: Rifling Marks?? Lot's of advice in this thread. Some good, some not so good. Take your rifle to a good gunsmith and have him look inside with a borescope and measure everything for you. He'll be able to tell you exactly what is going on. Take your press and your Seater die with you and...

    Varget lot variances?

Re: Varget lot variances? You are comparing differing atmospheric conditions against the same Varget lot shot? apples and oranges. There is much more to conditions than just temperature which determine come-ups. Did you rezero your rifle prior to shooting? If you did, you'd find that the...

RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme single stage press

Re: RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme single stage press I use the Rockchucker. It's a very good press. With Redding S bushing dies and a Redding micrometer seater, you will be making almost perfect ammo. My runout using this setup is less than .0005. That's less than one half of a thousandth.

    Lapua brass

Re: Lapua brass I've found that new .308 Lapua brass varies in case neck thickness of about .005 so I turn them, but that's just me. I've shot plenty of new Lapua in the past and have given them only a light chamfer before loading.

Range Report Ballistic FTE G1 vs. G7

Re: Ballistic FTE G1 vs. G7 Frank - When I was spending more time shooting with Vern and running a NF 5.5-22, I did spend the time to check my scope calibration and drop. I also spent more time with my Chrono and knew exactly what I was shooting (35P). Using that information and adjusting my...

Range Report Ballistic FTE G1 vs. G7

Re: Ballistic FTE G1 vs. G7 Just another reminder to log your conditions and dope in a databook. Over time, this information will be more valuable and specific to your rifle than any ballistic program. The iPhone has a settings function for each program that should be configured. This is...
