    Victory garden

On the topic of OP's cold frames, I built a couple. Here's my first round of what I'd do differently. 1. Reinforce glued butt joints (cedar) with screws. Being out in the weather or under snow adds a lot of stress to the frame. 2. Let the caulking dry around the polycarbonate. Mine is...

Anyone Else Picking Up Old Books/Publications.

My folks have had those "The Old West" series since I was a kid. I saw them in my mom's office a few weeks ago. It's pretty cool to see them in your picture. I remember as a little kid sounding out and trying to understand the word "Sonofabitch" from one of the recipes. Not to reveal myself...

A fife or bugle, does anyone play one?

Of course you can! This is 'Merica. You can learn any instrument you want. The first step is to assume that you can do it. After that it's a cake walk.

What are you stocking up on?

Candles and lamps are great, but here's an alternative... A few years ago I gave winter a big FU and headed to Central America. I didn't want to think about frozen pipes and cracked vintage instruments, so I installed a propane tank and some vent free heaters. They're great because they don't...

    Lone peak worth the money?

To the OP, I didn't see it mentioned in the thread so far so I'll throw it out for your consideration... Some say that stainless has certain advantages to TI besides being cheaper. If you're on the fence anyhow it's worth looking into. I have a stainless fuzion action but no stock for it yet...

If online gun sales are prohibited...

Thanks, guys. OP here. While Theis's red telephone gives me some measure of comfort, I think I'm just going to order my Forever 1911s this week. Much Appreciated!

Magazine Run is Starting - Still stuff in stock

I bought a couple TT extended 2011 mags the other day, and I don't even have a 2011 yet! Crazy world.

If online gun sales are prohibited...

... wouldn't that make it hard to get good custom actions? I only bring it up because it's on someone's list of how he'll make the world a better place. I'm also thinking of nice custom 1911s. When we buy from a made in 'Merica custom builder the transaction is done online, then the...

School me on what Log Splitter I should buy

Wolfe Ridge Compact Commercial splitter with all of the upgrades (including oversized piston and auto cycle) for me. I hear people get wrapped up in tonnage, but that's only one factor. Speed is also important. A log lift is great. Hydraulic adjustable wedge is very useful. Electric start's...

The Great Nostrabluegrasspicker predicts this will last a very short time....

    What to buy with stimulus

If it's a stimulus payment that allows you to make the purchase it may be best to invest it in other ways. Especially if you have other rifles. Just a thought.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns glock 26

Mine's a Gen2.5 that I've had for almost 20 years. I own nicer pistols, but it's the one that goes with me into the wild. It serves as a lightweight carry, and there are extra G17 mags in pack or vehicle. Same with summertime carry. If you get one you'll quickly figure out that it serves a...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Glock 19 Mags

I can't think of a single good reason to do what you're saying. If you want more mags, buy a bunch of G17 mags and be done with it. Even if extensions were the same price as G17 mags, what would you have? G17 mags are cheap. They might not be someday.

    DPMS Pattern in 7MM-08

This sounds like an interesting project. I don't really have all of the answers you're looking for, but here are a few of my thoughts... First, a 7mm08 (which I love) is trading commonality (the 308) for some ballistic advantage. So unless you're really going to go balls out for precision...

    Star gazer observation

I have yet to see a shooting star through NV, but seeing the night sky through it absolutely blows me away. It's very humbling to realize how many are out there that we don't normally see. Meteor shower with NV is now on my list, thanks!

    Star gazer observation

Thanks, I meant opposite side of the Earth from the moon. Here's a picture to clear up my verbal train wreck... [sun]------------[Earth]------[moon] I wish I could tilt the Earth. Drawing is not to scale!

    Star gazer observation

Thanks, Acuda, I never thought of that. That's a great way to remember where and when to find Aries and Leo.

    Star gazer observation

I'm glad you disagree. It makes life so much more interesting! I'm not sure exactly what you're saying. Let me give it a stab anyways... Surely the moon has to be on the opposite side of the sun at some point of its orbit, right? Your solar eclipse comment, once again, I'm not sure what you...

    Star gazer observation

Pretty, huh? I'm not sure if you're looking for an explanation, but for some reason it's important to me that everyone sees the Earth-sun-moon system for what it is. You know, navigation and all, not just because it's pretty. Since we're near the winter solstice, when the sun is lowest in the...

Range Report 7mm-08 vs 6.5 creed, which is better ballistics

What's up with the Hornady 7mm "shenanigans?" I have a stash of amaxes that I've been living off of for a while, but am looking to order a barrel for my new rifle later this week. So at some point I'll need to adopt a new bullet. Is there something I need to know? I recall reading about...
