    Barrel Break-In

Re: Barrel Break-In Several years ago I got a barrel for my 10/22. The company stated that by using a cleaning rod I'd void the warranty. What they suggested was to tie a cleaning patch on one end of fishing line or a string, and a thin weight on the other. Drop the weight down and pull...

    Rifle Scopes Night force purchase

Re: Night force purchase I just ordered one from Euro Optic an hour or so ago. Seemed like a pretty good guy to deal with. Got a 5.5 - 22 x 56 MRAD for $1475. Didn't have the Zero stop, but its hard to complain with $400 off.

    Savage 12 feeding issues

Re: Savage 12 feeding issues Thanks for the advice. Last night I took a look at it. I was going to adjust the feed lips, but I noticed the magazine had some play in it. I formed a small metal shim that forced the magazine to the right side. This lined up the round with the barrel...

Wanting a new long range set-up.

Re: Wanting a new long range set-up. I think you'll be more than happy with the Savage McMillan.

    Savage 12 feeding issues

Ok. I'm sure this has been covered a bit as it seems to be a common problem, but I've done a search and didn't come up with an answer. While feeding a round from the staggered magazine in my Savage 12 .223, more often than not it will throw the round into the back of the barrel. The COAL...

    neck issues on .308 loads

Re: neck issues on .308 loads I haven't measured for bullet length yet, but thats kind of what I was thinking. That dip may very well go away when reloading a fired case. The first 20 rounds I loaded with a COAL of 2.8, these were loaded at 2.82. I already shot those 20, but I don't...

    They finally got me!

Re: They finally got me! Thats one of my biggest fears. I had a buddy that lost nearly every one of his guns due to some meth head breaking in. Right now we've got two German Shepherds that stay in the yard all day and sleep with us at night. Hopefully that will detour someone...but if...

    neck issues on .308 loads

Re: neck issues on .308 loads Heres what I got. Its kind of hard to see, thats why I put the line there. Is this normal? I've never seen it on anything else I've loaded. thanks again.

    700P or a 5R milspec?

Re: 700P or a 5R milspec? I just got a 5R a couple weeks ago. PIcked it up for $925 on gunbroker. Since I sighted it in, I haven't shot a group over .5 in with handloads. Its hard to complain about that for under $1k. But the trigger does suck. Thats the next project for this gun.

Rifle Scopes Public Thanks to EuroOptic

Re: Public Thanks to EuroOptic The only thing worse than pissing off your wife is making her cry, and not letting her in on that could result in either or both. Very very bad situation. Not a whole lot of gear out there worth that in my opinion. Best to tell her what you'd like to do and...

    neck issues on .308 loads

Re: neck issues on .308 loads I'll take a pic this evening and see if I can get it to show. Its very slight, so we'll have to see. This was the first loading of the brass. I checked the length before loading, and it was right in line with the manual, but I'm not sure exactly what that...

Wanting a new long range set-up.

Re: Wanting a new long range set-up. Not to throw you back at the Axiom, but if thats what you end up getting, you can get them much cheaper than $850. I saw one on gunbroker for around $700 a couple weeks ago. A buddy of mine is wanting one, so we've been watching. You can also get a...

    neck issues on .308 loads

Re: neck issues on .308 loads Win brass, and Lee dies. I haven't measured the chamber length. I've been going off of the Sierra manual, and they state 41.7 Varget a max load for 175 SMK, but I've talked to a couple here that informed me about Sierra being on the conservative side. I...

Wanting a new long range set-up.

Re: Wanting a new long range set-up. I don't have near the experience most of the guys do here, but I've really been impressed with my Remington 5R. I didn't have the cash to all out on a custom stick, so after much consideration and review reading, I went with it. I haven't taken it to...

    neck issues on .308 loads

Re: neck issues on .308 loads Those rounds were FL sized brand new brass. I shot 3 groups of 3 an hour or so ago. I had one that made the bolt a little tight to close. I put it back in the box and shot the next one in line. Groups seemed ok (sub .5). I don't know. I haven't run into...

    neck issues on .308 loads

I loaded up some .308 last night. This is only my 2nd batch of .308, but I've been loading .270, .22-250, and .223 for years. I noticed that after seating the bullet, the neck on the cases seemed to bulge slightly like the bullet was too wide for the case. It was very slight, but when I ran...

Building a bench - what would you do different?

Re: Building a bench - what would you do different? The last time I had a bench on carpet, I attached it to wall studs. It was a cheap old computer desk, but with a solid back on it and 4 or 5 screws attached to the wall, it wasn't going anywhere.
