Hunting & Fishing My first buck in 20 years

Congratulations on having implemented the quality deer management, and seeing the effort payoff. That is the best reward of all. Wish we had more hunters and landowners like you. Very nice write-up too.

Hunting & Fishing Hunting Whitetails with FGGM

Bumped up for the beginning of hunting season. Same discussion as comes around this time every year about match ammo for hunting. "our gang" was "Mr. Humble" at the time of the postings.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Les Baer 1911 with 1.5 guarantee Problem

Please post up a pic. Les is a good guy. I've talked to him on the phone a couple of times. He is very easy to deal with. If you don't BS him or whine, and he won't BS you. They have excellent service. I'm with the others responding. If it is just a burr, knock it off with a fine file or...

Hunting & Fishing Looking for ammo with 175 SMK's

OP stated deer and pigs. That is the issue at hand, responses hopefully were in response to deer and pigs, and not moose or bears. <<<<-------- That is the answer that matters. ???? Videos seem to show otherwise. Maybe as you stated, shot placement is everything? (And I agree with you...

Hunting & Fishing Hornady AMAX for hunting?

Shot placement is what matters. From another thread going on 308 175 SMK's. Here are videos of 175 SMK and 178 Amax. Both are very effective with good shot placement. None are good without it. 308 175 SMK (comment by my 7 year old nephew) For comparison, here is a 308 178 Amax (same...

Hunting & Fishing Looking for ammo with 175 SMK's

Cobra, Having the opportunity to cull lots of deer and pigs over the last several years, and watch and help other hunters, one thing became very clear to me - shot placement is BY FAR the most important factor in killing an animal. And reliable shot placement comes foremost through lots of...

Hunting & Fishing Looking for ammo with 175 SMK's

jackh, Respectfully, my experience is quite opposite of cobra's. SMK 175's work quite well, and are my favorite. I've shot over 100 deer and pigs in a row with them, most DRT. Last year, I tried the new 135 SMK in 308 to test them for my wife and nephews. They too drop pigs where they...

LRF Binoculars - Leica & Swaro

The Swaro monocular LRF has been very reliable. Was just considering some new binos, so wondering if the LRF models are worth the extra cost and weight.

LRF Binoculars - Leica & Swaro

Thinking about buying a pair of new binos, and considering these two with LRF's built in. In the past, I had Leica (prior version) and Zeiss LRF binos for brief periods, but found neither worked as reliably on darker colored, fur-covered animals, such as deer and feral pigs as the Swaro LRF...

    Tactical Match Load

Might try a RCBS Chargemaster and buy a set of RCBS check weights to go with it. Tip discussed on here before is to stick a straw in the final 1" or so of the spout which mostly prevents it from throwing too much. It throws Varget very accurately, and about as fast as I can seat a bullet and...

Hunting & Fishing 3" away from Top ten World Record.

If it is not too late, might want to pick that up and change. Double Nickel is by far the worst taxidermist I have ever used for anything. He tanned three Axis hides for my wife and they smelled like they were tanned in a urinal. James Newport in Pearsall is consistently excellent. His...

Hunting & Fishing 800yd Whitetail Cartridge?

SlowZ, One suggestion is start shooting the Smack The Smiley competition. It's "only" 100 yards, but requires and teaches a high level of fundamental skills. One of Bill Davison's favorite sayings is master the 100 yard target, then add the distance and wind.
