Hunting & Fishing Shooting baboons with subsonic .308?

Re: Shooting baboons with subsonic .308? I tried a 308 200 grain Lapua subsonic on a feral pig at about 100 yards. The impact on the animal makes a "whack" similar to dropping a book on the floor. The pigs scattered immediately, and the bullet failed to put down the intended pig with my usual...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Semi-Custom 1911 Reliability

Re: Semi-Custom 1911 Reliability I change the springs early because it is my EDC. I was taught always to sling shot, so cannot comment on the use of the slide stop. As mentioned, the Baer replaced some Wilsons. I am very satisfied with Baer.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Semi-Custom 1911 Reliability

Re: Semi-Custom 1911 Reliability I carry a Baer SRP every day for one reason - it runs more reliably than any other pistol I've owned. In the past, I owned two Wilsons, a Stealth and a Tactical Elite. The Stealth was wonderful, the Tac Elite was a real headache. Despite two trips back to...

Hunting & Fishing Looking for a good .308 hunting load, input?

Re: Looking for a good .308 hunting load, input? To the OP, The Amax will work fine. If you have a good load that you shoot well, stick with it. Here is my wife on a cull deer with the 168 Amax. She usually uses the 175 SMK, but we had a box of Hornady factory ammo to use up, so she...

Re: Smack the SMILEY - SUMMER 2012 - Entry OPEN! We have a group that hunts together and has a friendly match to warm up for hunting season - the Texas Warm Up Match in August, when it is on the "warm" side here. This year I signed everyone up for the STS. When I showed them the targets...

Re: 257 Weatherby? Just relaying direct experience with the 25 cal BT and that only, since that is what you asked. If you think they are all the same, try them out. I hope they work well for you. Good luck this season.

    Hunting & Fishing 257 Weatherby?

Re: 257 Weatherby? As already mentioned, avoid the Ballistics Tips. One of the worst hunting experiences I ever had was helping with a group of hunters, one of whom was using a 25-06 with Ballistic Tips. He wounded deer and pigs with every shot. The ones that we recovered had surface...

Hunting & Fishing girth depth for animals

Re: girth depth for animals Their sizes vary too much to be reliable enough for accurate ranging, but 14" - 19" depending on age, weight, and genetics. For comparison, here is a 7 1/2+ year old next to a very healthy 4 1/2 year old. The mature deer's body outsizes him by 20% or more in...
