    Inconsistent POI.

Some of their stocks don't need bedding. I looked up the M40A1 and it doesn't specify one way or the other. When looking at POI shifts like that I go to bedding, or something loose- action screws, scope mount/rings, or possibly the scope itself (swap out with a known "good" one to rule that...

Advice on Cartridge and Rifle (and a lot of other stuff) for High Accuracy Bolt Action Rifle

7-08 for whitetails, and very capable at 1k with high BC boolits.

    6.8-300 PRC

I know this... My point was the same as that above- very limited bullet selection, and too light IMO- the heaviest .270's are around 170 grains from what I see (never owned one). If I were going to neck down the .300, I'd do 7mm- JMOYMMV.

Savage 110 Tactical Barrel chatter marks

Welcome to the world of Savages... Most all of them look like that, and most of them consistently shoot sub minute out of the box. No idea why their rifling buttons produce that chatter much more so than other production barrels, but results at the target prove the detriment to accuracy is...

How much magnification for 1 mile?

Do these need to be on swingers, or do they work on silhouettes/fixed plates?

Gunsmithing 223 11 degree crowning tool

Guess that's the next best thing to a safe queen.

Gunsmithing 223 11 degree crowning tool

What type of crown is on it now? I never cut 11 degree crowns full diameter, you need to leave some "meat" around it for when you inevitably ding the end of the barrel against something. If you cut all the way, and ding it- you've then damaged the crown. With a flat around it, the gases flow...

Loctite 620 and my silencerco muzzle brake

Glad you got it "right", would've been simple enough to try to slide a .001 shim between the device and the shoulder to see if you made contact which would be enough to make correct shoulder alignment. If you were as close as you say, probably just thread crush after contact to get it perfectly...

    30 SOTEX?

Xactly... 134 grains down a .30 cal bore. By the time load development is done, the throat'll be half toasted. But there is the "biggest and baddest" factor ;)

Gunsmithing 223 11 degree crowning tool

You're not going to find that animal. 1" muzzle diameter isn't common enough on .223s for anyone to make a #1 spindle form cutter with that radius. Manson would probably make one for you- but you'd be way ahead $$-wise to just have a smith do it for you.

    Need a better muzzle brake

The JP Recoil Eliminator is fugly- but I gotta say, I've not used a more effective brake. The huge blast baffles are the key to its effectiveness. The PA M4-72 is also a favorite, marketed as a compensator but I find it very effective at reducing felt recoil. The recoil pad on my MDT sucks...

    New Build advice

Caliber decision should be based on this ^^^ Whitetails only, Creedmoor is fine. Hogs, larger game- I'd give the 7-08 the nod for the heavier bullets it can push. I still shoot my 7-08 out to 1k for target (don't hunt) and it's a great performer- but I'll readily admit I'm a 7mm fanboy (just...

    First rifle

My first instinct was to join the "save up and wait, you'll be happier" crowd- and there's definitely sound reasoning there. That said, I can't see a downside to a "starter" stick like this- as long as you accept the limitations... https://www.rkguns.com/sav-axis-xp-combo-223rem-57256.html...

    30-06 build for long range!

Call me sentimental... I like to see the old hunting "standards" put to the lr accuracy test. There's a reason the aught 6, 7 mag and a few others are still going strong despite the marketing geniuses trying to convince every day of something "better". Far as I know, the 30-.06 is still the...

.300WM to .338LM Chassis Modification Possible?

Thanks. Didn't know the print was public. Going to do some more research on the brass, quick search shows it's lathe turned (I'm a smith so no problem with build to brass). No idea what I'd do with it suppressed, but it would be a decent anti-materiel rifle when the SHTF... and if I hit the...

.300WM to .338LM Chassis Modification Possible?

Well, dayum... None of my business... when I tried to look into it, I was told Jones wouldn't provide any information on it- 100% proprietary. Emailed him and never got a response so I dropped it.

.300WM to .338LM Chassis Modification Possible?

I thought that was the .416 Rigby? Badass round. Didn't know it was ultra-super-secret until I tried to find reamer specs to build one.

    New rifle advice

.223 would be perfect (and more challenging when the wind is blowing) for bench shooting where 600 is max. I've got long-range caliber rifles sitting in the safe since the "long range" range closed- no point burning 70-90 grains of powder when you don't need to...

    Carbon Barrel cracked??

Sound reasoning, though a smith can custom machine a larger diameter permanent "adapter" to allow for larger threads/shoulder and be perfectly concentric. Just another way to skin that cat, and less expensive than the cfw.
