Are the US Secret Service using standard Remington 700 actions?

I don't know what it is- but told wifey at the time it had to be a ballistics computer. LRF would obviously be inferior needing the time to check dope (obviously this is near PBR in this scenario but that's irrelevant to the capability they should have).

    Remington 700 Alpha 1

Rural King has the 7 mag and a few short action calibers in stock- no .300 WM

    Best bolt coating

Yeah, I got that. I was referring to the fact that once blasted, you've got that pitted surface for life. I suppose one could sand out the pitting from blasting and polish it, but then you've got a bolt body that's at least a few thou smaller in diameter than what you started with. I usually...

    Best bolt coating

Anyone used Cerakote Micro Slick? I've been tempted to try it for a long time...but didn't want to risk fucking up a perfectly fine bolt by blasting it.

    Remington quality

Rural King had a magnum ADL (can't remember now whether it was .300 WM or 7 Mag) for just over $400 last week on sale. My dumb ass snoozed a couple of days too long and missed the deal...

Need help deciding on a cerakote.

You didn't get a burnt swatch? It'd match the area under the receiver cutout near perfectly- unless it's lighting/angle making that area look like a different color than the area behind the bolt handle.

    A question/random thought.

^^^ Yep I had planned a .300 NM for earlier this year, but since the 2k range (Jtac ) closed end of last year and all that's available is under 1k, no need for it anymore. Plenty of short/mid choices that'll be cheaper to shoot at that range.

Yes. It's on a .300 WSM long-range target stick (shouldered barrel) I built; no complaints. Gives you both flat a curved shoes, I still prefer the curved...

Gunsmithing Opening the barrel channel on a wooden stock?

Sure looks that way to me- but the angle of your photo makes it impossible to tell definitively as the barrel isn't placed in it's actual location. The cylinder looks much longer and will extend into what looks like a light sporter taper on the stock which could kill the deal right there...

Gunsmithing Cerakote Pros: Do you bake Optics?

^^^ Yessir. As you say, pay particular attention to your hardener ratio- the more catalyst, the more gloss- and also greater durability. I used to go minimal ratio for those wanting a very flat, no gloss appearance- but I found that I could scratch the coating much easier than I was willing to...

Gunsmithing Cerakote Pros: Do you bake Optics?

Well, good luck. I never did high volume- but I stopped buying anything but tester sizes with the exception of a few of the "go to" colors like Graphite Black. Some (like the black) seem to have a longer shelf life, but I've had others that were clogging up the strainer (metallics) at less than...

    Gunsmithing Straight barrel to action

Thanks for the info- seriously. It's apparent (to me, anyway) that the quality of the prefits has improved dramatically. I'd always felt that the chambering process was lacking precision with prefits- but seems that at least among the top dogs, they've got it dialed in. I'm curious if all...

    Gunsmithing Straight barrel to action

I don't see anything "old school" about it, this is what gunsmiths do... I think it depends on the use of the rifle and the accuracy requirements of the shooter. I could be wrong, but I don't think you'll see many (if any) top 20 rifles in benchrest using chambered prefits, and I suspect same...

Gunsmithing Gunsmith said this about installing a Tikka prefit

Tikka barrels are a MF to remove as mentioned. Are you planning on re-installing on another rifle? If not, save yourself a bunch of aggravation and put a pipe wrench on it. Guaranteed not to slip...:) I have not installed enough Tikka barrels to comment on consistency of boltface to receiver...

Let me tell ya about Shoot Straight/Florida...Beware, long rant...

They know the gun shop where it was sent- less than 10 miles away. Owner told me several employees that left Shooters World work for him. And FYI, it takes five minutes to log a rifle in and out of a bound book- probably less with the electronic recordkeeping they use. But hey, if you think...

Exactly. They were- the manager was still a dickhead- but a polite dickhead. Pulling out the 4473 and pointing to the identification line as though that had anything to do with it. Just fucking fess up and say these are our requirements, like it or not, and yes- they're not required by BATFE or...
