What is the current best .22lr?

I shoot 3 position with a walther kk300, fabulous rifle with a fabulous trigger. That said, it's $3-4k. For under a grand like many have said a used Anschutz will be fantastic to learn on. Model 54 actions are great and have the options for a new trigger and stock with every adjustment you might...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 carry

Oh I did learn a thing or two before all hell broke loose. Looking at getting a white hat maxtuk iwb but haven't decided yet.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 carry

I shoot precision rimfire rifles with triggers in the ounces so a ~4 pound trigger is actually heavy for what I'm used to. I also think that a good trigger that breaks consistently and cleanly is very important, that being said, yes an excellent trigger makes shooting anything without an...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 carry

And for the record cobra, that makes you look like a joke. Hijacking a thread for your personal temper tantrums is pretty pathetic. I'll respect your opinion about 1911 and I'll agree that they do require more time and work to maintain, but serious calm the hell down.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 carry

To everyone that actually gave useful information and opinions, thank you very much. As I said I'm newer to handguns and figured it would be a good idea to at least ask the question. On the topic of 1911s for carry...the first shots out of my 1911 were more accurate, consistent and comfortable...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 carry

Thanks guys, it seems more like a very task/activity specific carry rather than an every day deal. Seems like I'll be looking around for a belt and holster for strong side carry, the white hat suggestion was great, seems like a quality product at a decent price. For now at least I'll be...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 carry

I'm 5'10" and about 150, so I don't have T-rex arms but I'm not an albatross either. As far as activity that I would be doing, I can't really say for certain. I'm still in school and campus doesn't allow carrying (stupid in my opinion) so short term wouldn't be very much day to day. The norm...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 carry

Before we gt into it, I'm sure I'm opening a huge can of worms here. That being said, I don't have much experience with concealed carry and handguns in general, so yes I will be taking a concealed carry course at some point before I start regularly carrying. So lets get to it... I'm thinking...

    Just wondering

You sound like you are very new to this sport, if not correct me but thats how it sounds. In that case I would recommend waiting on a $5-10k rifle and learning to squeeze all the accuracy potential out of a more affordable firearm first. Try something from savage, remington, tikka, or any...

    trouble hitting past 400 yards

Short answer, yes. I plugged your data into Sierra Infinity 6 with my atmospherics (2700' 65 degrees 80% humidity). At 400 yards with a 10 mph quartering wind (I called it half value, or from 1:30) you have 8.71 inches of drift. At 800 you have 41.62 inches of drift with the same wind. If...

    Just wondering

Well as I'm sure someone else will say, it's not called a sniper rifle unless you are a military or law enforcement officer operating as a sniper, otherwise its a precision long range rifle. Basically a precision rifle is more accurate because of the quality of materials used, the consistency...

    First Dedicated LR rifle

Oh i fully intend on getting whatever I end up with trued and rebarreled well before the barrel wears. Like I said, I want to spread out the cost a bit since I'll be saving little by little. I'd like to be able to get out and learn the rifle first as well as gain some knowledge as I push the...

    First Dedicated LR rifle

Hello all I've caught the bug...I'm currently planning my first dedicated LR rifle and I figured I would toss this out here and see what everyone thought about choices/rational behind them. Howa 1500 varmint in .308 w/ 24" or 20: barrel (barreled action from LSI or wherever I can find one)...

    Question about hold/form

From what I have been taught I have to agree with applying as little rearward pressure and grip as possible to the weapon system. It's simply too hard to apply the same exact amount of pressure each and every time you pull the trigger. Along with with that, endurance comes into it, without...

Gunsmithing Savage bolt timing and true affected by bolt head swap?

Thanks for the reply. The barrel nut is exactly what I want to stay with, only change the factory recoil lug and barrel nut out for precision ground ones. Other than that change I would probably send it off for truing and timing at SSS or switch to a PTG bolt assembly or both.

    Help getting setup for reloading`

It shouldn't do any harm as long as you have a depth stop set firmly and you don't go crazy with it. I found dimensions for tolerances of primer pockets and went from there. A good idea may be to measure your primers and set the depth based on that (I'm running .12" for CCI small rifles to...

    Help getting setup for reloading`

It looks like you have most of the basics figured out. At a glance I would say also look for a primer pocket uniformer and a flash hole deburring tool. You may also want to look at a neck turner and an ultrasonic cleaner. The tumbler will get the outside of the case very well and make them...

Gunsmithing Savage bolt timing and true affected by bolt head swap?

I'm considering putting together a switch barrel system off of a savage action but I would like to get it timed and trued at some point. I know timing and truing wouldn't do jack shit if i switched entire bolt assemblies so I thought it might still have an effect if I only swapped bolt heads...

Karsten cheek rest on a thumbhole

I've been looking around for an adjustable cheek piece for one of my rifles and the karsten cheek piece from stockys looks like it would be perfect. (found here: Karsten Adjustable Cheekrest) The only issue is that my stock is a Boyd's laminate thumbhole and I'm not 100% sure that the karsten...
