    Barrel Torque Ludicrocity

100 ft/lb is a non-issue accomplishing on/off with a cheap PMA gen 2 vise albeit usually with some barrel marring. If i paid $100s extra for my rifles to be fashion statements i'd consider a different vise or torque value.

    Hello from Minnesota

Welcome from Wright County. I'm a new shareholder at Monticello (only to 200 yds) and was at West branch (princeton, out to 550 yds). Have also been a member at gopher in harris which has out to 1000 yards. Membership at gopher is kind of a PITA to get started but it's a nice setup as mentioned...

    Help me diagnose popping primers

Its 556 data, not 223 so it's a little warmer. It's not hard to find other data suggesting the same though and still, this is 223 at 223 saami pressures. 556 or wylde chamber will reduce pressures and people can load a little over 55k psi without being a big deal.

I googled "ARC tennon Specs" and the first relative link that popped up showed the below image. If you go to their website, Support page links to the same CDG pdf with 0.822. One link below is their other actions which says "not for CDG" and indicates a 0.825".

Doesn't work that way. Otherwise carrying shit in your hands would be nearly as comfortable as in a good pack frame that puts that load on your hips but it doesn't even work out close to being that way. And being part of your body basically balanced on your center of gravity is notably better...

Barrel torque calibration: 18" breaker bar to action wrench, wrench parallel to ground, put weight on end of breaker until almost no weight is on your feet -> torqued to spec. Calibrate differently if you're a moose and you break the action wrench.

    Barrel Torque Ludicrocity

Harold Vaughn's Rifle Accuracy Facts, yes. I was not considering anything about the number of cycles but rather the case of a fired round exerting a load on the threaded joint that exceeds the preload applied as Aaron Davidson stated occurs even with over 100 ft/lb torque on a barrel. If we...

    Help me diagnose popping primers

If they want a 52k PSI 223 load maybe. 24.0 gr varget and 77 SMKs seems like a common load in 556 or bolt guns to me. Which isn't the same as a long throated chamber, or especially a long throated AI chamber.

In the other discussion it was mentioned that Stiller for a while made some version of the "ramp thread" from the book but it wasn't popular so it got abandoned. This whole discussion also makes me wonder how this applies to "prefit" vs "fitted" barrels and how tennon threads cut a little looser...

So if I lost 5 pounds from my fat ass i could just carry a 15# rifle around the mountains and it would feel like my 10# rifles do now?

So you guys are telling me i can buy one of these for $800+ more than a second hand Kahles 624i that weighs 1.5 ounces more? That's an expensive upcharge for the vortex warranty, zeroing system, and a smaller form factor that I never notice.

    Barrel Torque Ludicrocity

Just had a similar conversation on another forum and Harold Vaughn's book was referenced. Oddly enough, the conversation started with scope drop test validity and Aaron Davidson of Gunwerks pointed out issues with the action barrel joint being a variable that isn't corrected for. Quoting his...

    New ar15, what to get

My sample of 1 14.5" Recce BCM is hot garbage in the accuracy department. 2 MOA would be an improvement.

    6.5 CM Factory Ammo

Never in 6.5 but the 107 in 6 CM has been good. Bought a few cases of it for around $1.35/round a year and a half ago. The 6.5 stuff did pretty well in that factory comparison precision rifle blog did a while back, the primary limitation is that the 140 SMK is kind of a turd in the BC...

    Rifle Scopes Revisiting drop testing

Are you serious? 15 miles of bumpy roads/trails is too much to expect of the thing that we rely on to aim a rifle?

    Suppressors Covers

I've got 1 ea of can chaps, AG, and burn proof gear. BPG is probably my favorite for set/forget cover but they are expensive. AG works and is easy to slide back off to let your can cool faster if you want but they can slide around a bit if touched or going in/out of cases. Can chaps are a nice...

Yes. My understanding is that those different types/directions of forces stress different portions of a scopes design when it comes to zero retention. I'm open to being educated though.

    Sako vs. Weatherby

Sako. Steel action > Ti action. Steel barrel > Carbon barrel. Really the only thing i like better on the weatherbys is the peak 44 stocks. But it has a BSF carbon fiber barrel and a Ti action likely to be stickier than the already sticky steel cerakoted/fluted mk V bolts!

    Rifle Scopes Revisiting drop testing

Partially from rokslide reports but also wandering or lost zeros from side impacts and riding in vehicles when the same issues didn't show up from lots of rounds down range. Also because the durability testing i've seen like with the Leupold "punisher" seems to be just recoil related. I...
