My guess is the 1:16 twist originated from, or at least was influenced by, the benchrest world where for maximum accuracy you want the slowest twist rate that will stabilize a given bullet weight. That doesn't mean other twist rates won't work, they just might not have quite the same accuracy...
Would love to see BallisticARC allow me to set "Solution Units", or click values, per rifle instead of globally. I have some rifles with MOA and some with MRAD scopes and it's annoying to have to keep going back to settings to get the chart to read proper click values. Other than that, I love...
Longer barrels also reduce muzzle blast. I know my old Win52 with a 28" barrel and SK Std+ could be comfortably shot without hearing protection (nearly as quiet as a 20" with TBAC 22 takedown). Never tried it with a 24", though.
There's a bunch of 6.5x55 load data in the Reloading Depot For my Tikka T3 in a Manners stock with LA bottom metal and a 24" Chanlynn barrel, my best load is 45.9gr AA4350 in Lapua brass with with CCI BR-2 primers and a 142g Sierra Matchking seated .070" off the lands. 2786fps. SD of 5.2 and ES...
I was lucky in that my 455's stock trigger broke crisply out of the box. All I did was replace the spring to lighten the pull to 1lb for bench work. ~3000 rounds later, the trigger is as good as any of the Jewel or Timney triggers I have on other rifles. Unless your trigger is absolutely awful...
I loosley follow Steve Boelter's method from an article that used to be on his rrdvegas.com web site. He has removed the article since he's reworking it and expanding it into a book. He also had a great article on the web site about cleaning .22lr suppressors, in particular on pre-treating them...
It's item 528-000-018WB on this page (third down): https://www.brownells.com/gun-cleaning-chemicals/cleaning-rods-amp-accessories/cleaning-rod-guides/rimfire-bore-guide-prod25928.aspx Click on the small picture to expand it. That shows the underside of the guide and you can see there is a...
I have a 455 Varmint I've pillar and glass bedded in a Boyds Pro Varmint (i.e. Tacticool, $200 with optional cheeck riser) stock. The trigger is stock with a Yo Dave spring to bring it down to 1.5lb. It consistently shoots 1/2 MOA at 50yds and 100yds with Eley Edge and Lapua Midas+ when the...
I did a before/after CZ firing pin re-profile test early last year and posted the results on the old Scout site. I don't think the post made it over (at least I can't find it) so I'll re-post the results here. Velocity measurements were done with a Magnetospeed V3 and the temps were in the 70s...
I put the sensitivity on 7 or 8 for .22LR and it works fine. Occasionally, once in a great while, it will miss reading a shot but it's rare. For Lapua Midas+ with BallisticARC/WeatherMETER, I use G1 BC of 0.159 @ 1057fps length 0.375" weight .40gr width .22 and the solutions seem very...
Honestly, try SK Standard + first. My pillared and bedded CZ455 Varmint shoots a particular lot of Eley Edge into sub 1/2 MOA groups but it shoots much cheaper SK Standard + almost as well. YMMV.
Absolutely. I'd just have to manually advance the turret since I've disabled the automatic advance but that's not too unlike the 550B. That said, I can't see either the Coax or 550B (which I've been using for close to 20 years) being down for anything other than a clean and lube.
I use a Forster Coax and Dillion 550B as my main presses. I also keep a Lee Classic Turret press on the end of the bench with the auto advance disabled. In the toolhead, I keep Lee Collet neck sizers for my current most used calibers and a Hornady lock and load bullet puller for quick access. I...
I can say that on the whole my 6.5Creedmoor Forster Micrometer Bench Rest seater consistently seats a Hornady 130gr ELDM with far less runout (1-2/1000 vs 5-6/1000) than my 6.5x55 Redding Competition Seater seats a 142gr Sierra Match King on the same Forster Coax press. I have other Redding...
I ordered the case from Brownell's last Thursday. It showed up today and is identical to Corey4's. Full multi-cam inside and out, shoulder strap/waist belt, 7 internal pouches and the shooting mat. Oh, and the sewn in "Armageddon Gear/MADE IN THE USA" tab below the handle on the side with all...
