I’ve just recieved my Lee APP press and like everyone I was surprise just how small they are. More of a press-ette than a press to be sure. After mucking around with it I’m wondering if you can bulge bust 9mm cases head first so I can feed it with my case feeder. I’m just too lazy to fill the...
I’ve always used a Lyman 1200 tumbler with walnut and was never that impressed until I started using polish in it with meths to help disperse it. Now I get nice clean cases in 2 hours and no wet cases to deal with.
Good move on the Lyman and a great price. Where I am they are $530 plus shipping. I’m pleased you’re buying bits n pieces rather than a kit for the reasons everyone else has already stated. One thing for sure is that as you get into this and learn more and your process and therefore the kit...
My Forster Micro Seater does the same thing. The best way I’ve found to minimise it is to start the bullet into the case a wee bit then stop, lower the ram and rotate the case 180° then continue to fully seat. This reduces runout from 4, 5 or 6 thou down to 1 or 2. I always thought Forster were...
I’m not sure that’s right. If you do a load work up to find maximum pressure you’ll often find a good node below that at 98% of the max load. Not saying that’s the way to settle on a load but look at your results once load development is complete and see what the % is.
Unpacked my new Hornady LnL AP press and decided not to mount it in my current reloading space. The kitchen! Now to build that new bench once I can get the basement dry.
1. You need to adjust the decapper down so it contacts the primer sooner. Someone has already suggested this. 2. I’d put money on it your neck bushing is too big. Prior to seating a bullet, but after the case is resized and ready to load, try to put a bullet into the case without powder...
A cheap consistent setup that produces little to no runout is a Redding Body die followed by a LCD. Downside is it’s two steps but this combo produces great cases. You can get undersized mandrels from Lee and set final neck tension with expander Mandrels if required. I agree on the micrometer...
Yep I sure did. Went right up to 43.6 if memory serves me right. I got very slight pressure signs at 43, slightly noticeable signs at 43.3 and definite signs at 43.6. I think 43.6gr got me to about 2820 IIRC. I’m just about finished this batch of powder so it’ll be interesting to see what I...
26” barrel, 308 Lapua Palma brass formed to 6.5CM, CCI450’s under 42.8gr H4350 with 140 ELD’s and I’m getting 2745. This seems to be slower than most so I believe I have a slow batch of powder. Edit: I looked up my load data and I’m using 42.8gr not 42.7. Post above updated.
