Gunsmithing Flutes in a barrel vise

Re: Flutes in a barrel vise I had the same concern, and the barrel did slip but there was no damage to the the vise. There was however, damage to the coating on the barrel. Which, in my opinion was worse. I found that I make sure the barrel flute land is straight up in the vise, and the vise...

F T/R Competition Question, Not a dumb one I hope.

Re: Question, Not a dumb one I hope. Not sure why he thinks you need to be zeroed for the exact yardage you're shooting at. I thought that's what the little marks on that knob on top were for. Know your come ups, and dial it in. The only zero I ever worry about is wind zero. I use my sighters...

    F T/R Competition 185s HARD on Brass

Re: 185s HARD on Brass My brass is only lasting about three reloadings before the primers start leaking. Im pushing the 185 hunting VLDs at 2800 fps. That's pushing them pretty hard, so I don't expect the brass to last too long. Barrels, brass, bullets, primers and powder are expendables......

Range Report WHY DID MY GROUP OPEN UP?

Re: WHY DID MY GROUP OPEN UP? The more you work the brass, the harder it gets. The harder it gets, the more the neck tension changes. Could the bigger groups be wind, or position, or caffine, or temperature, or problems at home, or thinking of a girl you saw on the way to the range...

    Distance to test bullets

Re: Distance to test bullets I believe, for long range load development you don't get a good feel at 100 yds. I've had loads shoot really good at 100, but blew at 300. And vise versa. Some bullets, especially the VLDs stabilize out better at 300 yds and beyond. If they don't shoot good at...
