Gunsmithing Can a muzzle brake effect accuracy?

What about overtightening a brake? I've had that affect accuracy, and there are gunsmiths out there who swear by Loctite and a hand-tightened 'muzzle device' whether it's a compensator or a brake.

    Southpaw Controlled round feed questions:

I've been on the prowl for a left handed Winchester Model 70, like the ones Winchester was making a few years ago and they are fast approaching ridiculous money territory. What are my options for a short OR long action Controlled round feed left handed action? The rifle is going to be fed from...

    My 6.5x47 likes moly-coated Lapua 123's.

Re: My 6.5x47 likes moly-coated Lapua 123's. I had better-than-previous results with this particular rifle switching to moly. I would like to stay with it. I would prefer not to engage rifling with the ogive, for a couple reasons. That said, should I be looking at the hybrid bullet or the...

    My 6.5x47 likes moly-coated Lapua 123's.

My 6.5x47 likes moly-coated Lapua 123's. SD's of 2, sub-quarter inch groups and near-zero vertical dispersion. That's the good part. The bad: John at Powder Valley informed me today Lapua has discontinued the Silver Jacket line. I am equipped to moly coat bullets, but only 100-200 at a...

Gunsmithing LH Rem 700 Ejection Oddity

Re: LH Rem 700 Ejection Oddity I think I'll try adding .5" of pull to the stock and moving the scope back .5" and see what happens. It's probably .25" too short as it sits so maybe I can get away with it. If ejection is still a problem, I'll stick a 4.5-14 Mk4 on it hope for better luck. I...

Gunsmithing LH Rem 700 Ejection Oddity

Tearing into my first left-handed rifle build has been interesting to say the least. The rifle is ejecting the brass while cycling the bolt 100%. The problem i run into is when I mount the NF 5.5-22x56, the case mouth contacts the bottom of the side focus knob and almost knocks the brass back...

    Gunsmithing Longrifles, Inc review

Chad recently finished up truing and chambering a Rem 700 LH in .300 Win Mag for me, this weekend I did my load development and wish to share the results. I tried the new Hornady 208 and 225 BTHP Match in a total of 11 different combinations of powder, primer and bullet. Testing was completed...

Using Varget , with 69gr. SMK .....anyone?

Re: Using Varget , with 69gr. SMK .....anyone? I personally would use 24.5 to 25 grains of Varget. Either load should drive tacks. Watch for an overly-compressed mag-length load, the bullet will have the telltale 'seating ring' just above the ogive of the bullet. Source...

RCBS Gold Medal Seat Die 300WM w/ 208 Amax - FAIL

Re: RCBS Gold Medal Seat Die 300WM w/ 208 Amax - FAIL Hornady makes an A-Max seating stem specifically to address your problem. Buy the Hornady seating die and A-Max stem, load 5 cartridges with each stem and measure bullet runout. You'll see what I mean.

Re: looking for the 'it' .300 Win Mag Powder... Guys the reason I ask, is because I don't want to have a cold weather load and a hot weather load, but rather expect match-grade accuracy from just one load to use in all conditions. Mk 248 Mod 1 details here...

looking for the 'it' .300 Win Mag Powder...

Guys, What powder are you getting your best accuracy and temp stability out of in your .300 win mags shooting 190-210s? Chad is rebarreling one for me right now with a 26" Brux and .300 Win Mag Match chamber. I was thinking H1000, but don't want a compressed load. Ideas would be appreciated!
