Rifle Scopes BigJimFish Shot 2014 Coverage: Kahles

Enough of the ridiculously overpriced $3K and $4K scopes ... more of the booth girls!

Where do YOU draw the line on Pressure Signs?

I don't know the specs exactly, but with CFE 223 I was told by Hodgdon 3% max variance with something like a 140*F temp swing (don't quote me on that). For a ball powder it's very temp stable. Still I do all load development at a minimum of 60 degrees, knowing that max I'll ever see is 105...

Where do YOU draw the line on Pressure Signs?

Those both look fine to me. Take one of your max loads and cut the brass in half with a band saw or dremel, then measure wall thickness. Also try re-priming one of the max load cases, see how easy primer goes in. In between how it feels when shooting, measures with the chrono, looks when it...

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

Glaciers are just like frozen rivers, they form at the headwaters and dump out somewhere. It's just really dramatic when a million ton chunk breaks off, perfect for causing hysteria. Glaciers melt, if they didn't eventually the entire planet would be covered in ice.

If you can find it on any shelves, buy it ...

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

Actually we're at the peak of an 11 year cycle right now, and this peak is much lower than the last peak which was right about year 2000 - when all the hysteria really took off. So since then sunspots have been in decline, and strangely enough, Earth has cooled during that time ... hmmm.

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

You sound like a smart guy, but all you're doing here is regurgitating unproven loose theory, and your own anecdotal evidence as "proof". I'll pick and choose a few quotes below to my my point, being a Masters Atmospheric Scientist myself. This is exactly the "makes sense in my layman mind"...

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

I don't question the graph, but I know how they fudged the data to arrive at it is complete horse shit.

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

Global cooling is what I'm worried about, as everybody should be much more-so than warming. Much impact to the food supply and pretty quickly stores could be empty. We're at a solar max right now for this current cycle, and it's as low a peak as we've seen in 100 years. If the much lower than...

    maten build opinions please

I'm using the Seekins adjustable gas block, and would suggest getting one for any 308 build. Seekins, PRI, Syrac, JP all make adjustable blocks ... but I don't know of anybody who makes a low profile one for .936 barrels. You could use the rifle length MKM upper and a JP adjustable gas block...

    "POLAR VORTEX"! Really?!!!!

I'm a Meteorologist - Bachelors from Mizzou and Masters from Texas A&M. The term Polar Vortex does exist, but the application of it in this instance has been misguided. They're using it like it refers to this particular storm system. Polar Vortex is nothing more than the northernmost jet...

If you could only have one AR platform

This thread was actually good reading, with some well thought out replies, until Regalkismet showed up ... I probably would grab my MATEN .308. For me it's the perfect weight coming in at 10 3/4 pounds loaded, 20" barrel and a 1-6 VX-6 scope. It's proven reliable in all the Midwest conditions...

    DTA Turns Down Deal

Not that it'll make a difference. The CIA will buy the same guns with tax payer money and just GIVE them to Al Qaeda.

PCP Ammunition set for limited release of polymer cased .308 ammunition

Kinda had a feeling as soon as I saw the first post that things would go this way. We all wish PCP success, the only way costs come down is if they succeed and are able to scale up production as a result. It's simple economy of scale. But unfortunately it doesn't look like the product is...

    77smk loads

My favorite accuracy load with that bullet is with 24.4gr of BL-C(2). Out of my 18" Wilson Combat Match SPR barrel I can get sub 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100 yards pretty consistently with thorough brass prep.
