Range Report How to calculate bullet nose ogive

Ok I tried that formula for example on the 175gr SMK which is a 7ogive if I take the nose length of 0.710 (width) and use the height of 0.1205 (.308/2 - Meplat/2) you get an ogive radius in calibers of 1.89 and it is a 7ogive bullet. I saw this formula and it seems it should work but not sure...

Range Report How to calculate bullet nose ogive

No if given a bullet and you know the length of the nose section and all the other dimensions to find out what the radius of curvature is to find the ogive.

    Duplicating m72 ammo

Greg wasn't doubting your source just I haven't heard of charges up to 50gr being used to get the velocity. I know in tearing apart M2 ball aside from the usual variance associated with ball it is interesting to note the differences in the charges from various lots due to the difference in...

    Duplicating m72 ammo

Did some quick reading over at German's Salazar's blog and FA didn't produce match ammo from 1940-1957 and didn't start production again till 1958, when they started up this was with M72 and the charge used was 48gr of 4895. Why I'm skeptical of that army fact sheet. The Rifleman's Journal...

    Duplicating m72 ammo

I have a slow lot of 4895 pulldown and run 47.5gr of 4895 with a 175SMK which matches M72 specs. With new IMR4895 I think it is around 46gr. With the M1 you don't want to push the load. I've never seen where 50gr of 4895 was the charge for the M72 ammo. I know the lots did vary due to the...

135 smk experience in 308 bolt

The 135gr SMK was designed for the Springfield M1A match at camp Perry it shoots just fine out to 300yds. I've shot them in M1A, M1 Garand, 1903s, Krags, and my AR10 match upper. I don't run a heavy charge as they shoot really nice with around 43-44gr of Varget in the .308 case, run 47gr of...

    180's too Much For the 280 / 280AI?

I shoot the 280 and it can handle the 180's quite well, even have shot the 189 Cauterucio's in it and they shot well. I just stick with the 175's because I have a load that works and haven't noticed much of an improvement shooting the 180 hybrids. I believe I was pushing the 180's around 2880...

F T/R Competition Central Indiana High Power Rifle Shooters

I shoot at Atterbury regularly. You will squad in the parking lot across from Range Control then everyone proceeds down gets the targets set up and then the shooters on relays 1/2 will head back to the 1000yd berm. You will need to bring the normal NRA sling/or F class equipment and ammo for 2...

30 cal 168 Match Hybrid, any good loads ?

In my palma rifle (1:11.25 32" 5R Kreiger) they shoot really nice with 46.3gr of Varget, which would be around 45gr with IMR4895 I would suspect but I'd work the loads up.

    Tuning VLD's

When I played with VLD's I took a known charge that works in most rifles (in case of my AR-15 service 24gr of Varget) and then I adjusted for seating depth. THen I went back and did the charge. While not VLD's I found the 80gr Amax were finicky and I had to find the seating depth first before...

    338 Lapua & 300gr Sierra Match King

92.5gr H1000 with a 300gr SMK, it was good enough to get me waterline 9oclock 10 on the NRA LR target at 1800yds this past Sunday at Atterbury for the longest shot match, just got lost in the wind and couldn't get the second shot in the black. Shooting it in a TRG-42.

    H4350 or IMR4350 for 260 Rem

Try N150 or N160 you'll be happier and get better barrel life as they are cooler burning, also more consistent as VV makes their own nitrocellulose whereas the other manufactures buy theirs.

    155 gr vs 168 gr

It's all about recoil. If you are just plinking go lighter than the 155's. Try the Sierra 135's or the Nosler 140's both work well out to 300yds. Speer 125 TNT's work nicely also but they are a flat base so I only shoot them at the 200yd line unless I have a really calm day then I'll shoot...

    Hornady "Suspend" List

Notice the word suspend is being used, not dropped. I am guessing they are just focusing their resources on their top selling bullets and then will continue production with these later. This is no different than what Sierra, Berger, or any other company is doing however Hornady is just letting...

    Required MV for 175 @ 1,000 yards?

Doug, I'll see you up at Bob Wright at Camp Perry. I'll be shooting sling though so I'll be on the other end. Orange/White Monard jacket, and my tube gun (.280 Rem) has Michigan Maize/Blue paint scheme. Anyways you should be fine. First year I shot High Power I went to Atterbury for a Palma...
