Neck sized Winchester brass and the load is neither highly compressed nor bullets barely seated. COAL is 2.776 with the Hornady 105 BTHP Match. They are slightly compressed but you can still hear the powder shifting when shaking the round. Velocities have been confirmed by shooting out to 800 yards.
CBM the only thing I can figure is that it didn't actually hit the skull but ran right under it and came out in the skull/spine junction. The first one was a side profile with entry between the eye and ear.
Here's 3 I've killed since rifle deer season started. All of em were between 290 & 310 yards and were shot with my 25/300WSM. This one took a 115 Berger a little low. These 2 each got an 85 Ballistic Tip.
I'd pick the 7STW first, if it will shoot 162-175gr bullets good. I've got a buddy that has killed 10+ deer at between 525 and 820 yards with his STW shooting 140gr Accubonds. I'd shoot a heavier bullet if it was mine but it's hard to argue with his results.
Re: Duplicating M1 and M2 Ball I load 48.5 grns of Varget behind a 155 AMAX for 2770fps in my Garand and it shoots great. Aloreman is right on track with 46.5 grns behind a 168. Varget will help you with the extreme temp swings too. Good luck!
Re: Son's black coyote That dude is sure pretty! We've got several blacks within 50 miles of here. Your boy did a fine job. I wish Arkansas game and fish would get their heads out of their butts and allow night hunting for predators.
Re: Pics to get ya fired up on Predator season !! Thanks guys! Yeah he was still grinning 3 days later! A 223 ain't the best hog caliber out there but it sure puts their tits in the dust when you bust that earhole!!
Re: Pics to get ya fired up on Predator season !! They ain't exactly predators but we were predator hunting when we ran onto em. My 10 year old and that AR wreaked hell on these 3!! The big sow on the left weighed 175lbs.
