Removing tar sealant from pulled bullets ?

Re: Removing tar sealant from pulled bullets ? Use plastic gloves. I've used odorless mineral spirits with a course rag to clean a bunch of large and small bullets. Slow process but good results. Mineral spirits won't harm you.

Surplus 50 BMG Pulled bullets price check

Re: Surplus 50 BMG Pulled bullets price check You can compare prices here: http://www.patsreloading.com/patsrel/prices.aspx?category=Bullets Scroll down to 50bmg bullets. Unsized are slightly cheaper and you should be able to tell if they have been sized by the pull marks being ironed...

    50 BMG Primers

Re: 50 BMG Primers Much prefer the Blue Box flat head CCI 35's over the CCI Arsenal primers. Would definitely go with the Blue Box if they were still available. Talked to a tech at CCI and was told to use the flat punch and slightly flatten the head of the domed Arsenal primer when seating...

    Help with h5010 powder

Re: Help with h5010 powder I've seen this chart for surplus powders. Haven't tested any of the loads myself so use at your own risk. With 5010 in magnum cases you will get less than normal velocity with a case full of powder. This chart lists loads for 7MM Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag with 5010...

    Question on small base dies

Re: Question on small base dies I've seen no need for small based dies for several AR-15's, M1 Garands, or Remington 742 30-06 semi-autos. A small based die works brass a little more than necessary. A small based die actually sizes brass closer to factory sized ammunition cases and sizes...

    Comperator or 'mic'

Re: Comperator or 'mic' I have the RCBS Precision Mic for .223 Rem and another for 30-06 which will also work for 25-06. Also I have the Hornady Headspace gauge set. Both are very useful tools. Nice thing about the Hornady set is that it will measure most all caliber cases. You do really...

    223 tracer recipes

Re: 223 tracer recipes Military lists velocity at 2870 fps at 78 ft. from the muzzle. This link has one poster giving chronograph data he got in his rifle with the M856 tracer with H335 powder: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_42/366620_.html

    223 tracer recipes

Re: 223 tracer recipes H335 should light them reliably if the tracer compound is still good. They don't light up until 75-100 yards and are a dim trace and hard for the shooter to see in sunlight. Military load data reduces WC 844 data by 1.4 grains from their 62 M855 fmj load. With H335...

Re: 223 loading data 24.5-25 grains of Win 748 with the Hornady 68 grain bullet shoots good for me.

30 Cal 163gr AP projectiles info?

Re: 30 Cal 163gr AP projectiles info? I've loaded and shot them in a Rem 700, Rem 742 semi-auto and in Garands. I agree that 165 grain data can be used to work up loads for the 163 AP. With 46.5 grains of IMR 4895 in the 22" barreled Rem 742 I was getting 2530-2550 fps. With some...

    oehler two screen chronograph

Re: oehler two screen chronograph When I bought my Oehler 35P back in the 1980's I seem to remember that they could be bought with 2 skyscreens or 3 and with or without a paper roll printer. I elected to buy the 3 skyscreen model at that time without the printer. Mine is still in use and in...

    Hornady 55gr V-Max Issue

Re: Hornady 55gr V-Max Issue I agree that a VLD chamfer tool is needed. It will remove burrs and the angle of the cutter makes seating bullets straighter and eliminates scratching the bullet.

Looking for a press for the .50BMG need input/help

Re: Looking for a press for the .50BMG need input/help I load on a RCBS 50BMG press and it's adequate for the job. I bought the press kit with dies etc. Hornady and RCBS are the same press with the only difference being Hornady's Lock and load feature and red paint. I don't see the RCBS...

How precisely does a die re-screw into a press?

Re: How precisely does a die re-screw into a press? I would just buy the biggest and best for loading your large caliber. Maybe the Redding Ultra-Mag press. I like the way it bolts to the bench which should make it easy to mount and dismount to a bench. Plus it hugs the edge of the bench...

Do you run a Big Max A4 press?

Re: Do you run a Big Max A4 press? The ram has a threaded hole in the top. Either a spring loaded 3 jaw assembly screws in or there is another attachment that screws into the ram that uses a standard shellholder. Both pieces have holes drilled in the sides that are used to tighten or loosen...

Range Report RPM Of A Bullet In Flight

Re: RPM Of A Bullet In Flight Another way of thinking about twist is that for a 1/12 twist barrel the bullet will turn once every foot of travel or 300 revolutions in 100 yards or 900 complete revolutions in 300 yards. Not a lot of turns but it's doing it in a short time. A 1/9 twist barrel...

    50bmg API airburst problem???

Re: 50bmg API airburst problem??? I've seen a blue tip explode about 10 ft. from the muzzle. The core hit the ground about 75 yards out and was moving slowly. I suspect either a loose core or a bad or missing bullet base lead seal. I have found a couple pulled bullets that when shaken...

Low flash powder for .357 Mag

Re: Low flash powder for .357 Mag Warnings have been put out by Alliant to NOT use Blue Dot in .357 magnum with 125gr. bullets. In the past I've used Blue Dot in short barrels and it's very flashy. This article is talking about .357 Sig but it does discuss high and low flash powders...

    Developing load for autoloader

Re: Developing load for autoloader I would recommend using a faster powder than IMR 4831 for the Rem 7400 autoloader. While it will shoot 4831 loads, I think that for the Remington action that it will be over-gassed causing more stress than necessary on the rotary bolt and receiver. I've...
