Have to say...mossberg really did it with the MVP

I bought my boys each one of Mossberg's Super Bantam ATR in .308. They appear to use the same action as the MVP and both are shooters. My boys are 8 and 10. I handload 125 SGK and 125 SST for them. I spin the 125SGK out at around 3000 and the 125SST works best at around 2800. My oldest can...

Thanks to Greg Young at Southern Precision Rifles!

Got Greg's number after asking about getting a brake for my boys .308. finding a 1/2 x 28 brake is a little difficult especially if you dont want to spend a ton of money. My boys rifles are $350 Mossberg so I really didnt want to add $150 per rifle for a brake. Emailed Greg and he took good...

    A little help finding a .308 comp. Need 1/2 x 28

I have QD mounts coming for my .308 can but in the wait time, I would like to install a comp on both my boys .308 rifles. Due to the size of the barrel, it has to be threaded for 1/2 x 28. If anyone could post up some links, I would appreciate it. Haven't been able to find one so far. Thank...

Hunting & Fishing Any opinions on the Barnett Ghost 410 crossbow?

I have a Barnett Quad 400 (budget version of the Ghost 410). got it last year for Christmas and it is phenomenal. It is a bit heavy but at 50y, I can shoot fist sized groups from a decent rest. It is quite a bit less expensive than the Ghost and I think it runs the same speed. If you don't...

Remington Managed Recoil 308 Win Loads Data

Unsure of your purpose but I have a little experience with working reduced loads. FYI, here is where I am now. Two boys, 7 and 10, both shoot Mossberg ATR 308's, 20" 1/10 barrels. We use Boyd's Prairie Hunter stocks (great addition) that are cut down to their respective LOP. 10yo uses...

Need a Do Everything 308 load- Pigs, Deer, Cats

If you have 4895, we have had excellent luck with 125 Sierra Prohunter. We roll 47.5gn at 2.700 coal. Speed through 20" barrel is 3100 avg. No way a pig, even a shoulder shot, cat, deer, or anything will stand up. Drop is around 3.0" at 200y. Plus, they are half the price of everything...

Hunting & Fishing Another reason for a head shot...slow mo "eye popper" HD video

Great video. I have been paying attention to your setup and I noticed that you use a rather tall bipod, is that one of the Harris 13-19" versions? Also, it doesn't look too much like you guys are going full ghillie most of the time. How close do the coyotes have to get before they see you and...

Rifle Scopes My Vortex 6x24x50 PST... You fellows need to know..

I knew about all of this beforehand. My Vortex 6-24FFP arrived a week or so ago. Overwhelmingly there are positive ratings on it and very little with durability. 15-20 scopes out of the thousands that they sell is well within the range of acceptability for me. I would bet that you can find...

Rifle Scopes Vortex PST FFP 6-24- pre-range review and pics.

Range report from this weekend. Glass is very clear at all magnifications. Day started out sunny then overcast. Clarity through the scope at all mag levels remained unchanged. Getting the scope zeroed took a little bit because I could not see where it was impacting on the paper. Turns out...

Rifle Scopes Vortex PST FFP 6-24- pre-range review and pics.

Scope arrived from Rifle Scopes, Binoculars, Spotting Scopes and Range Finders | Swarovski, Leica, Zeiss | SportOptics earlier this week. Very happy with the service and price at SportOptics. They are also a Hide sponsor. Scope appears to be very light in comparison. Comes with the...

Annealing. First batch. How does this look?

I used the chuck it up in a socket, spin it, heat til you see blue ring 1/4" down from shoulder and drop in water.....method. Right around 8sec for top in pic. Seems to be about right....maybe a tad bit more. Most folks online indicate 8-12sec on 308 brass. In the dark it is clearly...

Annealing. First batch. How does this look?

I read up a bunch on annealing and took the advice of several hide members before I started. Here is my first batch. Bottom of the pic is the first run, where I was experimenting with time. Some are too light, some too far down on the case. Middle of the pic is a little short on time, I...

Annealing. Is it necessary for everyone?

I currently run Hornady Match brass through my savage 10fp. 175 SMK's and 180 SST's run right around 2700 average with 43gn Varget and Win WLR primers. I FL size when I reload and I have had not any issues with sizing or with velocity consistency (last string of 20 in 100 degree heat had...

Rifle Scopes Can you recomend an inexpensive beginner's scope for an AR?

I have been using the Millett DMS-1 scope for a long time. I have used it in 3gun, hunting, etc. My boys have both taken deer out to 150y with it. At 200y with a good AR, making A zone hits is not a problem. $200. LD

    Fieldcraft Gillie suit budget Build!

Here is my budget build. I really wanted light and packable so I went a bit like c-bass above (not as cool however). My poncho is pretty thick in the front and when on, hits me about the waist. Goes down to boot level in back. I use a couple plastic clips to keep it together and sitting...

Sort of a reloading question; Paint for reloading bench?

Outside the box here but i didnt go with paint at all. I bought some laminate wood floor and glued/nailed it to the top. You can get it cheap. i think i bought two boxes. Mine is a light pine color but i have used dark oak on another bench. Snaps together and takes years of abuse without...

    Savage extraction difficulty

I have the same rifle and had several issues with brass initially. None with factory ammo but with reloads. I initially tried using some LC stamped brass. FL sized, trimmed to 2.005, followed the reloading threads on here to the letter. Brass would chamber but then would stick. Tried...
