Re: Triad Stock Pack vs. TacOps Cheek Pad While I can't speak to the Tac Ops cheek pad, I have a Triad stock pack and it is an excellent product. Very useful and very high quality.

    Ruger Gunsite Project

Re: Ruger Gunsite Project The Winchester M70 or FN actions are much better than the Ruger for this application. I have had a couple of the Rugers, no longer. I now own 2 winchesters and an FN. No comparison.

Bottom metal for Win or FN SA ?

Re: Bottom metal for Win or FN SA ? For floorplate/Trigger guard assemblies, Williams and Pacific Tool & Gauge are the most readily available. The Williams has an Oberndorf style floorplate releas mechanism and has a better finish quality, but it is 2.5 times the price of the PT&G as well. I...

Rifle Scopes Need help. Viper Holdovers

Re: Need help. Viper Holdovers If you will go to the Vortex web site and start up the long range ballisic calculator there, it will give you all you need. Just select what reticle you have and fill out the load data, environmental conditions, and zero distance and it will give you a...

    Rifle Scopes Vortex scope questions

Re: Vortex scope questions I own four Leupolds and two Vortex scopes. I cannot agree with the opinion that the Vortex are better quality than the Leupolds. I would however rank them equal in quality. Given that the equivalent Vortex scope is less expensive than the Leupold, they are certainly...

    260 Rem: 22" or 24" barrel

Re: 260 Rem: 22" or 24" barrel I recently built a 260 for hunting and informal shooting at moderate ranges. For what I use it for (out to 600 yards or so) 22" is perfect. It balances better and makes it more practical for hunting. If you were planning on doing a lot of shooting out to 1000...

New Self Build (Semi) Finally Done

Re: New Self Build (Semi) Finally Done I was able to get it out and fire a couple of groups this last weekend. Limited time and ammunition kept me from really getting down to it. I had thoroughly cleaned the barrel before spraying and coating the Cerakote. This barrel likes about 20-30 rounds...

Why not the Winchester model 70

Re: Why not the Winchester model 70 Nothing wrong with the M-70/FN actions at all. I have three of them. I have owned just about everything out there in terms of production actions and in my view it is superior in every meaningful way. Too many people new to the game seem to think the...

    Budget build ideas

Re: Budget build ideas Sell the 770 and leave the Leapers on it. Get a Savage HB 308 of whatever model you prefer. It gives you all kinds of possiblities for modification down the road. If it must be extremely cheap, go for the Stevens 200. It is a sporter weight rifle but still gives you the...

Maiden voyage - New coyote rifle.

Re: Maiden voyage - New coyote rifle. That is a big coyote compared to the scrawny little things we have in Oklahoma. Nice rig too.

New Self Build (Semi) Finally Done

Re: New Self Build (Semi) Finally Done Thanks guys. This one is really growing on me. This rifle was built for deer and coyote hunting in the plains of western Oklahoma. I dont see myself ever letting go of it!

New Self Build (Semi) Finally Done

Re: New Self Build (Semi) Finally Done There were a few of the lamination layers that were a little off color but other than that, great. The inletting was very close, requiring only very minor fitting for a perfect fit. I have heard a lot of people complain that their ready to finish stocks...

New Self Build (Semi) Finally Done

Well it is finally done. I posted a picture of this stock a while back in a thread about Richards Microfit stocks. It began as one of their Marksman models with an unprofiled butt section. I wanted an M40A1 prifile but they didnt have anything like that. So, I got a pre-inletted stock that was...

richards microfit stock **** pics updated

Re: richards microfit stock The inletting was very close as it came. I just roughed up adn removed some of the wood in the areas where the bedding compound was going to be. Given that this was for an FN SPR action, it was damn near perfect. It isnt as simple as the rounded Remingtons.

richards microfit stock **** pics updated

Re: richards microfit stock I am just finishing up a Richards Microfit myself. I wanted the shape and profile of a McMillan HTG or M40A1 stock, but in laminate. They didnt have anything close to that so I ordered on of their Marksman target models with an extended and uncontoured butt. The...

Gunsmithing Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal

Re: Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal I have one PT&G and one Williams for a M-70. The Williams has the Oberndorf style release mechanism and a slightly better fit and finish, but it is twice the price of the PT&G too. Good product at a good price if you are on a budget.
