If its not catching the brass something is wrong. Dont settle with it not running 100%, send it to a good smith and have them fix it. I may be way off but to me it sounds like someone needs to double check some measurments and maybe tweak it some to get proper case protusion so the extractor...
You can buy them for pretty cheap and contour them in. If you wanted to make one you could measure your existing threads on your barrel with a set of wires and make a plug with the exact dimensions. Then when you turn and thread your protector you'll have a gauge to see when you are there. Casey
I do a lot of cerakote, Prep is everything. Spraying is not bad, just get a good HVLP gun if you plan on doing quite a few guns. If you have acess to a blaster use Aluminum oxide or garnet 100-120 grit. Make sure to degrease it well also. Good Luck :) Casey
The APA little bastard works well and you'll be very happy with it. I just put one on a light weight 300 ultra, its very nice to shoot now then before. Casey
Can you buy another bolt from surgeon? I asked at one time and they said I could buy another bolt for my 1086 action, but its been some time ago. Casey
I would take Jon up on his offer, he's a great guy and will get it straightened out for you. Did you get a chance to look at the threads on the action to see if they trued them? Casey
I always sell my old bolt when its new and buy a PTG one piece with all the bells and whistles that I like. Just up to you and how long you want to wait, I talked to them yesterday and they are 8-12 weeks on bolts depending on what you want. Casey
Im using the surgeon one now. I have only looked at the rear entrys on the net and wasn't sure how they worked. I haven't had a chance to handle one yet, love the help here. Thank you Bert, Casey
Blast after you degrease and remove all oils and contaminates. If you don't your media will get contaminated and your coatings will be compromised and then your fucked, you'll be dumping all your media and cleaning your cabinet. I use CRC brake cleen, Chad uses methanol gas and has had great...
Cerakote isnt hard to spray, it takes a little time to figure out your spray gun settings that work well for you. Once you have that and know what you can get away with you'll be good. Are you soaking it to remove the oils? I soak and heat to drive out any oils, thats a must also. I would blast...
I have a friend that wants to put a brake on his 7 mag. barrel is .506 at end muzzle and wants to put a 1/2-28 tpi brake on. Im pretty iffy about it being to thin but thought I'd ask and see what you guys thought. Thanks guys, Casey
I also made a barrell extension that the AR15 barrell extension slides in and a collar that screws down to lock/hold it in place. Works quite well Casey
