Google the Wayfair Decision - charging sales tax across state lines is now the law, they are only complying with it. Guys who are not charging sales tax to states who have declared that they require it, well, good luck. Changes from state to state - depends on which have declared that they...
If you are even considering $2k, hands down get one of the Schmidt PM II 5-25 DT P4Fine - those are $3200 scopes ($3700 list not long before that), and you can get them now for low 2's.
The weight is nice, but I can't abide not being able to quickly confirm zero with a slaved vis laser. I hate trying to zero IR lasers any other way, total PITA. I've tried this too, and to each their own, it has merit. I didn't like the extra battery consumption and the shadowing, and the lack...
Definitely agree in general, though I still maintain that the D2 is usable. I wouldn't advocate for any of their other ones, including the A3 and A4. The PEQ15 is still a superior solution here. Don't disagree here either, but the OP was asking about a PVS-14s and helmets, so I assumed he was...
I've tried a bunch of devices, if you can't get a PEQ15 then I think next best device is the DBAL-D2. The other units that Steiner offers either don't have coaligned lasers, which is a non-starter for me, or don't have enough illuminator power. The D2 is a bit heavier, but the powerful...
I've shot a PMII 52-5 DT P4F for years and on many different rifles, and I love it. You can do more with more reticle technology, but you certainly do not need it. The illumination is not designed for day usage, it is very dim. Nothing like DigIllum, you would not be able to use it during the day.
That's a good point - and subtension thickness becomes a concern at longer distances as well. FWIW, the FC-MOA's center dot is 1.25 minutes wide. That's a bit on the big side.
Would love to hear how you like it. My first impressions of them were very positive, was impressed that L3 made something like that, but don't have the runtime on them to stack them next to other makes.
I have handled both the NX8 and ATACR 1-8x personally, and can confirm that they are easily daylight bright. It's hard to see from the reticle pictures, but the illuminated ring at 1x, lit up, looks much like a reflex dot. I had no concerns about acquisition of this dot under bright conditions...
