Sidearms & Scatterguns Hiking With A Pistol

I use a drop leg rig in the open when backpacking. Owb concealed with my 1911 when just out for a day hike though. --Wintermute

Gunsmithing I'm buying a lathe....prepare for lots of stupid questions....let's get started!

1st thing I'd recommend is to figure out what you're going to do without all of your extra money as that'll get eaten up by tooling :D. After that, there were some good items listed up there. I'd also recommend: Machinery's Handbook Even more tool holders range rods (or your barrel indicating...

    New AR in burnt bronze

Thanks for all the appreciative comments :). Just a note, opening up the gas port worked perfectly. Cycles like a champ and goes bang every time with 55, 61, and 75 grain ammo. --Wintermute

    New AR in burnt bronze

Added the front cap ring from YHM which actually fit like a glove and took it out for the first function test today. It was undergassing (not quite enough gas to reset the trigger when pushing the M16 BCG). I've opened up the gas port from 1/16 to 3/32 and put a slight chamfer to the top of...

    New AR in burnt bronze

Just finished coating and building this little guy (finally got to cerakote one of my own guns which is nice). Little 7.5" barreled AR pistol in 5.56. VLTOR MUR upper, Spikes lower, IceArms barrel and NIB BCG. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet (that'll come on Sunday). Came out nicely and...

Sidearms & Scatterguns What is the Ultimate Combat Pistol? Make your case

HK Mark23. Utterly reliable, very accurate, controllable, rugged, comfortable to hold and shoot, .45 ACP, high capacity, etc... I can't think of any pistol I'd want more than a MK23 if I was in combat and my life relied on it. I don't know about the seals but I do know that 1st group had them...

    Radical Vortex fluting

Mike, I've had a bolt fluted by Paul for my Tikka (also, that's my barrel in this thread). Pauls customer service, attention to detail, responsiveness, and work is perfect in my experience. I've never had any problems working with him getting response or support from him, and his work has...

    SAKO: pronounced Sah-ko, not Say-ko.

Who ever thought it was pronounced say-ko? I've never heard anyone say it anything other than Sah-ko

Has anyone had a similar problem with dehydration or am I wrong in my self diagnosis?

Let me tell you a brief story about drinking what you are during the day and not drinking enough water: I pretty much did the same thing as you on a regular basis until around last April. The day after my wife was admitted to the hospital for a pregnancy related issue, I spiked a 105 fever and...

Gunsmithing Considering getting a 3D printer...

My opinion is pretty much echoed above with one exception. If you get a printer that has a high resolution, you can prototype components if you are thinking of coming up with your own product or something completely custom. This prototype work can be done with a high resolution 3d printer for...

Gunsmithing Homemade gunsmithing mallet and two Shooboy hammers

Well, I finally got tired of using a steel headed hammer with my brass drifts to remove and install pins, sights, etc... so I decided to make a nice small brass headed mallet to use. I didn't get any pictures of the process, however, the mallet head was made out of just a chunk of brass bar...

Gunsmithing Long Rifles Inc. OR Gunwerks

Yup, go with Longrifles Inc. Can't go wrong with Chad and not only is he an amazingly good gunsmith, he's a good guy too, has great customer service, and he's helpful to everyone here as well as the shooting community in general :D --Wintermute

    Connecticut firearm surrender letter

Actually, those people don't even have to worry when they look up an old purchase form. They cannot compel you to disprove ownership or possession of something. They could try, but you would luckily have both the ACLU and the NRA backing you up (probably a number of pro-bono constitutional law...

Yup, another gun cabinet cerakote oven... *pic heavy*

Nope, no worry about the fibers coming off...that stuff is actually a lot more dense than it looks. Looks like fiberglass...weighs about 10 times as much per cubic inch. I haven't had any problems at all with fibers coming off and floating around. --Wintermute

    Connecticut firearm surrender letter

Actually, I think you should go to another state...I have no desire to ever go to New York :). That place is East Berlin these days...fully controlled by the Stasi. --Wintermute

Yup, another gun cabinet cerakote oven... *pic heavy*

Hmm...I'd guess I was up to somewhere around $400 or so (I think...I didn't really tally everything up, but between the cabinet at $100, $40 for the element, $60 or so for the PID, $200 for insulation, most everything else I had laying around the shop). I bought my ceramic board insulation at...
